Thanks guys, I'm happy with the concept...just have to execute it now though Should be fun. Ordered a gold Honda decal yesterday so I'm going to wait until that arrives so I can try and match up the gold.
Spent the past two days prepping the engine for paint. This engine was rotten, I'm sure its a few pounds lighter now. Due to its history as a dirt bike there was dried mud and dirt in every crevice. Its has taken me hours and hours to get it clean. When I first got the bike I clean off the larger grime, but this past two days has been very tedious. Finished it this morning and just have to tape off the ports to have it ready for paint.
I don't have any way of hanging the engine up to paint so I made a very rough engine stand from some scrap wood. Hoping it'll work alright. Should have it made it earlier as it sure made the final cleaning much easier.
Hope to get the engine painted either tonight or tomorrow.
I want to bolt on the reed valve, intake manifold and oil pump before installing the engine, so I cleaned them up tonight so I'm hoping I can get them all on tomorrow. I painted the intake manifold and polished the edge of the reed valve so I can have the small silver accent between the intake and engine.
Seems like I'm just crawling through this build lately. Don't get much time. By the time the kids get to bed I only get 30-60 to spend in the garage. Good thing I'm not in a rush ;D
Got the oil pump, reed valve and carb manifold bolted on tonight. You can see in this pic the polished edge of the valve. I wanted a small sliver of accent to break up the blackness a bit.
Next up is the carb. The carb that came on the bike was pretty dirty on the outside but internally it wasn't too bad. The killer was the cracked mounting bolt hole. Luckily I was able to get a nice carb body from fellow MB5 owner Ari (thanks again ). I'll use a combination of parts from both carbs to build one good one.
