I get impatient too. I just sprayed 3 steel doors and 2 wood screen doors on the new house and it took all my will power to wait long enough between coats etc. Bikes are even worse.
LOL, I can get a bit impatient too, especially with a multi-colour scheme, but I have been getting better with my patience. I had a tendency to rush everything and then regret it afterwards, I've really slowed down the work on this bike, didn't want to rush anything. Just take my time and enjoy the process. I rather work on bikes than ride them so figured why rush it.
I still have a few things like wiring and such to keep me busy while the paint is drying
sxecafe, yeah I love that colour of primer, everything always looks very smooth with it on. Clean slate ready for colour.
Forgot to add that before primering the seat I had to figure out how I was going to mount it to the tank. I decided to mount it in a similar manner to the stock one. So, this past weekend I made up a tab out of some stainless steel left over from an old barbeque and fiberglassed it to the seat. That will hold the front of the seat in place and I'll use some industrial velco in the back.
Well its confirmed...I'm an idiot. Was all set to button up the wiring this morning. Just had the headlight left to do and so before tucking everything in the shell and putting the bulb in I decided to test it. Bulb is dead I cannot believe I never tested it before this. I thought I did but looking back it was one of the 7" headlights I have. I put a lot of work into cleaning and painting the bucket, maybe all for naught. Well this part of the bike is on hold until I can either source another bulb or get a replacement headlight unit. Contemplating rolling it off the lift so I can put the 350 on there.
No, unfortunately its a sealed unit and there is a metal ring attached to the bulb to allow it to bolt up to the headlight ring. Just checked the price of a new one and they are over $40. Going to have to look around and weigh my options. Thanks for the tip though.
Hey Perry, the 71 450 I have has that smaller head light that I'm not planning on using, it has a replaceable bulb in it. Has some rubbing on the bottom of the inside of the bulb looks like a nut or something got in there, very usable though.
Thank you very much Franz, I may take you up on that, much appreciated. My only concern is that it will 'bolt up'. By this I mean the stock 350 lamp has a metal ring attached that allows it to bolt in place to the outer ring.
I'm going to try something with my current bulb tomorrow to see if I can do something with it to retrofit another type bulb. If that doesn't work I'll give you a PM. Again, thank you.
Thanks for posting the pics. The mounting tabs on that light look identical to the 350 ones so it should fit fine. I'm going to try a few things today and hopefully get something to work, but I'll be in touch if I fail.
Only got a few small things done today. Did a bit more wiring (hate it so I only pick at it), installed the grips and mirrors and cleaned up the rear turn signals. The lens on the turn signals was a bit cloudy looking so I wet sanded them a bit with 2000 grit and hit them with the polisher. Here's a comparison picture and one of the mirror.
Well over a year ago I played around with making a fiberglass fender mold for my CB350. I made one back then but it had a few defects, wasn't bad for a first try but wasn't perfect. Well today I pulled that mold out to just give it a try. I don't have a fender for the MB5 yet so figured I'd make a quick and dirty one until I can make something better. The part that came out is, as expected, far from perfect but I think I can make it work for this season. It's really only the edges that are bad.
Here's a picture of the fiberglass fender I made that was used to make the mold.
