Dirty Dan's 350F Build

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Hey, for the compliments and kind words guys!

Every time I put on another piece and then step back and look at the bike, I surprise myself. A nice clean freshly painted machine is just a beautiful thing to look at!

Got some more work done today. The tank and the seat are just resting there, I wanted to see how it's going to look!

Edit: Hmmm.... I'm sitting here looking at the picture, I need to lower that headlight.

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

I think it looks killer the way it is, but take a pic after you lower it so we can see. That seat is going to look real good when it's fitted.

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

+1 for lower headlight. Looks good man!

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Ugh.

Was about to put the carbs on today, grabbed the pod filters I bought from ebay and started to put them on....

The base is fine (35mm) but the actual filter element is way to big on all of them. No way they're going to fit as is. I can't decide if I want to just put a small elbow bend on the two outer filters or just buy all new. I'm really leaning towards an all new set of K&N's that I know will fit.

There's always one more thing...

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

I had to squish my k&n's to fit onto carb 1 and 4... there is a noticable bend in them, but they do stay on

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Hmm... I'll look again tomorrow after work, but I don't know man. It didn't seem like it was going to work.

Definitely good to know about the K&N's though, I'll have to give these another try, like I said.

I had the same issue with mine. I cut the rubber boot on the outer two pods at an angle to get them to fit right. Plus I think it looks kinda cool like that. I was hoping to find smaller pods though, I didn't want to re-jet the carbs, but I think I'm going have to anyway. Have you already changed jets, or are you not having to do that?

That seat is awesome. Is it leather or vinyl?

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Throwin' so many d's on it.

I'd imagine I'm going to need to change, I have a set of 85's to start with. I'm hoping that's going to get me close if not right on the money

It's made out of a old leather jacket and has been been faux "aged" a bit.

Flat OD-ish green paint.

Picture is from a few days ago, bike is pretty much put together as of now. I need to chop the rear still, I'm just trying to figure out how I want to mount the seat.

Oh, and the 4-2 exhaust I have isn't going to work. Hits the side mount license plate bracket/taillight. I'm going to order the upswept black MAC 4-1 here in a few days, I'm thinking the sound of that MAC running uncorked on this 350F is going to be pretty fuggin' awesome. I'm also bidding on a set of mini gauges on ebay, so hopefully that pans out. I posted a set of white Honda wing emblems awhile back, I'm going to mount those in place of the stock Honda emblems.

Oh yeah, I still need to get a set of pod filters that are going to work, current one's are too big. There's always one more thing, isn't there ::)

edit: sitting here thinking. there really is always one more thing... I need to either make the front fender fit (which didn't seem like it was going to happen with the bigger tire) or figure out some sort of fork brace/shorty fender. I really want some sort of fender, I hate rocks in the face. I guess most people do though.

The dog approves. I think.

Lookin good! Really wish my 350f project had panned out.

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Anybody have any front fender solutions?

I really don't think the stock unit is going to fit with the +1 tires up front

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

LOWERING THE HEADLIGHT WAS A GOOD IDEA IT LOOKS GREAT NICE BUILD

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Bike is looking great! I too went up a tire size in the front, and the bracket is almost hitting the sidewalls. Is that what your talking about?

Dang, I was going to suggest removing the fender from the mount and only using that as a brace... sans fender. But if that's where it is rubbing my idea is a bust. :p

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Yeahhh, everything's rubbin', both fender and fender support.

I rode my 750 last night in the rain, it has a fender. Was thinking the whole time how nice it was to not have water spraying all over my face.

Gotta figure this one out!

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Finally chopped the rear support:

I also made mounts for (and mounted) my seat. Took some old L channel I had in the shop (it's actually what's left of my old shower door) and stuck some nice thick rubber hose underneath that to provide a good seal/connection with the frame of the bike. I tapped some holes, and voila:

Originally I was going to mount the seat differently, I was going to allow for the sides of it to wrap around the frame and hide the top tubes that it's mounted on, but I decided I wanted to be able to see the top portions of the frame that I was going to hide, so I mounted the seat a little higher. I'm pleased with the results!

Still gotta chop the rear and weld in a hoop obviously, but I'm closer than I was! Oh yeah, I also got my Model A light mounted.
