Lookin good! Really wish my 350f project had panned out.

Random, but the car in your avatar looks familiar. You don't have a Swapped 1st gen RX7, do you?

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

nope. that'd be nice though ;) and the Morgan too, but it's not mine either.

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Ah, didn't realize it was a Morgan.

I remember a guy on another forum I used to frequent more often (RX7 Forum) had a swapped 1st gen, but more importantly he had completely hand built a car very similar to that Morgan. I think he called it the Stilleto.

Got some goodies in the mail. NOS Magura gum grips, mini speedo, and a shorty mirror. I was going to use bar-ends but they just didn't look right on the end of the drag bars. Throttle side grip isn't on yet because I need to go out and buy some grip glue, clutch side is just sitting on there :p

I was out rummaging around my barn when I looked at a 550 out there and realized the headlight was bigger than the one on the 350... So I took it. Looks good! Amazing what a 1 inch difference (I think?) has made.

I think it looks meaner with the bigger light.

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Awesome work man! Can't wait to tear into mine like this during the winter time. The bike looks awesome!

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Thanks! Yours is coming together nicely so far too. You can't beat the little fours, I love them so much.

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Hey Dan,

What about lowering the speedo a bit. Looks like you got plenty of room there....

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

You know, I was thinking the same thing... buuuut, the gauge bracket is setup so you bolt the back of the gauge into it, I can't really drop the gauge down into the bracket at all to loose any of that height.

Any ideas?

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Looking great, Dan. I like the drag bars. They've got to be more comfortable than my clubmans.

Dan

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Thanks Dan!

Yeah, you probably saw earlier in this thread that I had originally put clubmans on the bike... that wasn't working out for me, I'm 6'1" so it was painful without rearsets.

I've got one. What about a custom steel/ aluminium flat bar bracket connected to your headlight ears?

Just an idea, hope it helps...

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Hmmm.... That's not a bad idea at all.

Such a good idea I think I'll do just that, thanks man, thats some good thinkin' on ya!

I have some steel that the P.O. shipped with my seat that I think will work out just perfect after I bend it up a little.

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

So I have a question for you guys.

Even with the small amount of rolling around the bike does, I've noticed that the shock boots don't want to stay in place. They stick on the upper fork tubes and pull off the lowers after any sort of spring compression. I've put a little grease under the boots and I've tried zip ties. The zip ties come off with the boots and the grease doesn't seem to really solve the problem.

Am I missing something here? I'm sure they're the right size boots. Maybe I need to get a little more messy with the grease?

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Not sure I understand what you are greaseing... or where you would put more to keep the gaiters from coming off. I know you said they are the right size, maybe you meant diameter because it sounds like they are too short in length and get pulled off on the rebound. I have seen metal rings like these and even safety wire used to hold them on...

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Hoosier Daddy, I put more grease underneath the boots themselves hoping that instead of gripping the forks like they do, the grease would allow the forks to slide freely through the boots without being grabbed.

I do like those rings though! What are they called, and where would I find them?

Edit: Ah-hah! Found them, looked at the .jpgs URL and did a little hunting. I may try the zip ties one more time before I drop the 20 bucks (ish) on those guys.

On another note, I made a bracket out of an old licence plate I had sitting around so I could drop the gauge down a bit.

Not quite your design, seven54, but you certainly got my gears turning :)

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

I am so confused... sorry. My Gaiters are long enough that with the front fork extended to the max travel, the gaiters go from the bottom of the triple tree to the top lip of the fork lowers. I don't want it to slide off the lowers or away from the triple tree. Sounds to me like yours are too short. ???
As far as the place to get the clamps, I just used google images until I saw what I remembered... lots of places to get them.

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

Hahaha... Sorry for the slow response!

I'm not running gaiters... Fork boots! You are confused ;)

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

I know it's not my bike BUT it's bike related I guess ;D

My mirror visor came in the mail, it's nice. Picture doesn't show it off all that well, in person it truly is a mirror. My lady was using it to fix her makeup... While it was on my head, so yeah, it's mirror-y. It doesn't really fog up on me at all and I haven't had any issues with glare. It's like wearing a pair of sunglasses so it's obviously not ideal for night riding. On the one night I've ridden with the visor, I've just thrown it in my tank bag, so, that solves that issue.

I also picked up a can of red spray paint and taped up a simple design. I'm pretty sure it's the design from some Arthur Fulmer helmets, I saw it on a lid on ebay and I liked it so much I had to copy it.

Re: Dirty Dans angry little 350F build - Slowest build thread ever...

I'd originally planned on ditching the side covers, so I cut off the tabs. After thinking some more I decided that I actually wanted to keep the covers. I'm just zip tying them on. Truth be told, having them there is making things easier for me... I was having quite a bit of trouble finding a way to hide all the electronics a way I liked.

Yeah... I know... I still haven't cut the back. I've been having some difficulties with the wiring so it's not on the road quite yet.

Re: Dirty Dan's 350F Build - T.C.B.

AWWWWWWWWWW YEAH!!!!

Got all the wiring issues figured out, the ignition switch was bad. I had to pretend to steal it to get it to turn on :p Bikes are way too easy to gank, I need a caliper lock or something at least

First time running in months! First time running on all four cylinders in who knows how long, years probably. Only ran on three when I got it, bent valve.

Throttle is a little sticky, I think with a little more lube and riding/movement it'll work itself out.

Sorry about the quality, filmed on the MMS setting on my phone. I'll get a better video when everythings all buttoned up!
