Re: DTT / Cafe Racer / Vintage Moto Shop Banners - Final Designs & Pricing on Page 6

IM definately in for a Version 2, 19x48. How can I pay????

Re: DTT / Cafe Racer / Vintage Moto Shop Banners - Final Designs & Pricing on Page 6

Im a bit late to the party here. Honestly, these don't seem very vintage to me. Mainly the font selection is questionable. The main feel of the design is '50s inspired but then you use a modern font. I just feel like it needs to be researched more and after that, then a design implemented. I also think the kerning of your text needs a lot of work. Looks like you just went with the stock typeset in your design program, which usually isn't good for header and title text. I like the concept, just not wild about the execution. Doesn't really scream vintage to me, or even a modern take on vintage. Just feels kinda rushed.

I've been a graphic designer for about 12 years now and I currently do merchandise design in the music and sports industry. That said, it's your design, so take my critique as you will.

When you put it that way I think it makes sense, little bit of old with a little bit of new. Just like what most of us are doing with these bikes. Modernizing them for this day and age.

Thanks for your opinion. I appreciate all feedback. As you can read i've taken all feedback into consideration and don't take it personally. Listening is the key to creating good design.

If you have an idea for a banner, I'd be more than happy to produce it for the masses. My pricing is about 2-5 over my cost to cover the gas to go pick them up and mail them out. Feel free to post your ideas here. I'd love to see them.

I just had a "I want a DTT banner" idea after seeing some old race banners online and doing a batch of banners for an Nickelodeon event.

Thanks again!

Also, what about the kerning seems so radically off? Do you have a suggestion for a less modern font? I'm happy to try any suggestion.

Thanks,

I have plenty of banner/poster ideas kicking around in my head, unfortunately I'm too busy with client work to actually lay one down. Plus I just get contracted for work and don't actually bother producing my own to sell, outside of the occasional one-off art piece for a gallery show.

Regarding kerning - design 4 has the kerning all over the place. There's no uniformity at all. On 3b the kerning is way too large. I understand you're trying to fill up space in the arrow but it is being gone about incorrectly. Like I said, the concept is good but the execution needs more development, in my opinion.

Cool man. I respect your opinion. I will consider you kerning expertise next time around. Any font ideas?

Re: DTT / Cafe Racer / Vintage Moto Shop Banners - Final Designs & Pricing on Page 6

Mainly the font for dotheton.com on the 4th one just doesn't work. It doesn't really jive with the rest of the banner since it is a more modern font while you're obviously going for a retro look. Also on 4, it looks like you've stretched the type, which really is a no-no with typography.

Ah... That is the logo font. Guess my day job made me use "brand fonts" to maintain brand style. Oh well. I brake rules all of the time. :D that's what they are there for right?

First batch of banners are in. They look great and will go out tomorrow. I will do a second batch before the holidays. Probably do a few new designs too.

I do that in every meeting! Best place ever for ideas is a room full of suites and a notepad. They just love to hear themselves talk.

Some people talk too much! As long as you look up from time to time and listen/take notes on some stuff you are golden.

Printed a few spares if anyone is interested. #1, #3b and a small #4. Let me know and it can ship as quick as you can pay!
