I was on another new member's thread earlier and offered help with their upcoming cb360 mono shock build if they needed it and posted a picture of Gretta. I had no idea that i had created such a piece of shit until Swivel informed me. I'm glad her pointed this stuff out. Back to building cupcakes for me i suppose.

The following is a compendium of the string of pm's I received within 5 minutes of posting. I'm sorry for leading you guys on for so long.

"Your barn job engineering is dire on so many levels beyond my mere opinion.Do your own research on suspension design and chassis work like Egli,Tony Foale and Bimota.

You are in love with your baby, and that's fine but don't pretend to influence young nOOBs who actually may think you know what you are doing.Your bike is not an example of good safe engineering.Period.

I'm not going to write a detailed engineering and design analysis on your rear suspension setup. If it doesn't fail in use for you thats fine by me.

I reread your post:what a lot of frog shit.Looking closely I noticed your rear shock mount is welded to ONE flexy tube on two welds in shear to the direction of the shock movement.I'm 100% sure mister.Don't pretend to be an accomplished expert:you are not."

Swivel's a douch, done and done.

Four pages of reaction of the criticism of a barn job swingarm.Good for a laugh. :)

I've never seen such savage emotion invested in mere metal.

That's where you're wrong. It isn't just mere metal. Its much deeper than that around these halls that you insist on haunting. I feel bad for you because you miss out on what the real motorcycle community is really about. The bikes that you criticize have been ridden with fervor amongst many of the people that you talk to on here as if they were garbage. The people here are beyond text. They have a sense of community and friendship that spans years and MANY miles. You earn the right to be a part of that by contributing. There isn't a single person in this thread that I wouldn't drop everything possible to help. Like Tyler said, none of us are experts, but we are real world tested. Confirmed, witnessed, experienced by everyone here. I know none of this makes a difference to you. It's sad because it should. You're missing out on what makes this place great. Friends are what makes this placed great. Motorcycles are the icing. People share here because they like to be a part of one another's lives. You do the opposite. You will continue to miss the point. I won't however stand idly by and continue to watch you degrade the experience of everyone here.

I've made friends here, he's made posts.

You down for a bare knuckle at the next DTT meet? I'm game. We can raise money for the charity of your choice.

Who talks like this? Starting to sound pretty corny...

Hey guys, I am trying to get a group organized for Daytona next year. If you have not seen my link please check it. I know most of us have families and need to make these plans well in advance so thats whats up. Nice guys and girls only! ;)

Society is an illusion.

Both of these statements say it all for me. There are fatal flaws here.

You are to be pitied Swivel. Never mind motorcycles... your outlook on life is messed. Sad.

watch out! he is going to tell us how much the triple is flawed next....

Things have been so nice and peaceful lately. I guess Swiv finally talked his mom into getting the internet hooked back up again.

I suppose that this is the reason that I started this thread. I have a great respect for all of you guys that I have shared my life with over the past years. This place has given me affirmation on the credibility of the world through the actions and demeanor of the people that I have met through this site. You come from places that couldn't be any different, but when we all come together I find solace in the fact that we are all indeed family. We are as different as night and day, but I wouldn't have a second thought about inviting the majority of you into my home to increase the experience for all of us. In fact I have and will continue to do just that. My life is greater for knowing all of you, and would be far from the same without you in it.

Swivel gives me a taste in my mouth that isn't indicative of what DTT is about and has been about since I started coming here. I don't like to have that feeling about my place of solace. This place continues to be a bastion against the seemingly impending fall of the torn society that we see unfolding around us. People have as a whole stopped caring about one another and disregarding their neighbor on a whim simply because it is easier to do that than to contribute to their lives. If I want to see woe and disenchantment, I simply have to go to work or look around me when I walk down the streets. I recently spent a day with my grandfather and father walking the farm where my family sowed its roots over the generations. Those two men taught me what it means to be a man. They taught me to think for myself, to provide when means were unobtainable, and to love my family unconditionally. These cornerstones of who I am can be echoed in the experience that I share sometimes with complete strangers in these pages. I have never seen a community that is more willing to provide a positive influence on other people than I have met here.

And then there is that one guy. I am sick of seeing the negativity that the guy brings to the table. I am sure that he has offered advice to some of you that was useful. I am not calling him an idiot, because he does have knowledge. What he owns in knowledge though is overshadowed tenfold by the negative and slanderous nature of the posts that he accumulates at the expense of other people. It is never appreciated (as can be seen from the overall sentiment that he harbors).

It is seemingly easy to ignore, but in the end, I can't help but think about the newcomer who is greeted by him before they ever have a chance to really learn what Do The Ton is about. We are a lot of things here. Assholes, sarchastic individuals, and motley. Above all of this however, we are extended family. If we are to maintain what we all love about this site and what it stands for, issues like this should be addressed when they arise. If they aren't the mood will change, and the changes will be anything but good.

There is no room here for false arrogance or entitlement. All that does is bring us all down.

Ya Kiley, you know the majority here share the same sentiment. I think the gatherings these last 2 years in Alabama speak volumes. 8)

Steady On! ;)

I usually wouldn't get in the middle of something like this, but i can't hold back. First off, not to many people know me here but i do a little fabrication. If Gretta's swingarm was junk i would have rebuilt it when Kiley invited me to his home for Barber(without knowing or meeting me first). I was welcome as if he had known me for years. Bike is beautiful and I love the design and geometry. Second for someone to even make negative comments about him or his machine is bullshit. The love I received from the DTT members there is unlike anything I have ever experienced, and for someone to trash the man who brought us all together is also bullshit. I'm sorry that you feel it is necessary to trash people and their work. Anything someone builds with their own two hands is to be admired no matter the quality, and guys like you prevent people from going farther and getting better with the negative bullshit you are putting out.

What you apparently don't have is a keyboard with a consistently working space bar. ::)

Time to let it go. The thread, the emotions. I understand the perspectives that different people have but a group bashing one member of that group because some of them don't like his attitude is not much better that the individual's behavior.

There is no need and no point in going down to the level that you think that member is at. It achieves nothing and creates the bad feeling that we want to minimize. In other words the whole argument becomes self defeating.

I know very few of you in real life, so I don't have a dog in this fight, but I have found most people here to be open minded and friendly and in some cases, exceptionally generous. Some of us have a critical approach to people and some of us are far more supportive and some of us just offer mindless comments and all the above are OK.

We're not all the same and we don't all act the same and we all have to be a little tolerant of others who are not like us.

In the case of the specifics, I would like to see some real stress analysis of that swingarm to compare it to stock and to a "best case" solution. It looks to me that it is probably stronger than stock in some ways and in other ways has some design aspects that are not optimal. That doesn't mean that it will break under the loads to which it will most likely be subjected, but there is always room for improvement in any design.

Two strokes from the era were great but many of us can improve on what was done in the day because more information is known and accessible. The same with chassis design. It's not hard to improve on old designs but it's also easy to get it wrong and make things less stiff/strong.

One thing I suspect bugs Mr Swivel is the times that well intentioned people modify a bike and others think it looks cool and sometimes they do and often times they are close to dangerous and even more often they are less functional than a stock bike. The attitude that fenders and fork braces are not needed because the rider never goes out in the wet or fast enough to notice are not a good way to spread the word. Generally that's immature and that's what we don't want to be.

I love the youthful approach from young guys and young at heart guys like Hoof. We can stay young at heart and still avoid immature responses and I have rambled on for far too long already. Let's rejoice in our differences as well as our shared passions and interests.
