Kawasaki 2 Stroke "Mongrel"

Swallow your green pride and buy a big tz motor already

You'd probably have to swallow more than your pride to get your hands one of those.

Well boys. While I appreciate all the suggestions as to how to bankrupt the next 3 generations of my family, I think we'll end up with something relatively simple... with a little more grunt, or course. ;) ;D

It like owning a vintage airplane or a race horse ya cant worry about the money

Ya, I'm really not worried about it... cause I just don't have it. :D

I don't think you need to build a monster motor, just something funner than stock.

Simple, Fun and Street-able, but build it around being bulletproof. Stock or tuned, if you can't thrash on it without worry, then there is no point

Yes Reds, you're reading my mind!! ;)

You you gunning for anyway Drewski? Could it be a sibling rivalry? ;D

Haha! Of course Walms!! Can't let Seaglider out gun me!! Gotta have plans to stay out front!! ;D

That... and the fact that I can't leave well enough alone. :p It's a bit of a curse. ???

(Now, where are those ads for snowmobile engines... )

Same here... There is nothing more permanent than change! ;)

O'k. Not mine, but THIS is my inspiration. 8)

A "Trevor and Reds" creation. I think I need this for the Mongrel. ;)

Minus the oil leaks of course. ;) ;D

Actually it would be good to know if Reds is willing to pump out a few of those reed cages... ;D
LRE has billet ones but they don't look nearly as cool as the fabricated ones!

About the only two things my triple has in common with that bike is black chambers and the oil leak.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well, try as I might, this Mongrel just won't die or go away. :-\

I've tried to sell it, strip it down and build a different Triple... it just seems to keep coming back as it was originally mean't to be. :)

1. I finally painted the wheels black. I hate washing white wheels. :p
2. Raised the rear end about 2" to get the attitude of the bike more balanced and a little more ground clearance.
3. Installed a hydralic clutch. What a difference!! Best mod ever!! :D

Nasty dirty, rusty pipes though. :-[

Fixed that!! :D

Man, they clean up nice! :)

Heading out with some buds from Kawasaki Triples Canada this weekend. Should be good for a few pics! ;) ;D

Love it as always Drewski. What about a High heat header clearcoat to help keep the rust off? you'd think with all thay 2 stroke oil on them they wouldn't rust LOL.

Thanks Maritime! :D

Ya, they looked nasty, but it was just a light surface rust. There IS a ton of spooge from the motor on them most of the time! ;D

I've seen some clear coat products, but I'm afraid of discoloring problems. If you know of one that will remain clear, I would certainly be tempted to get it done! 8)

The only thing I know won't yellow is clear high temp powder, It would be pricey probably. The other clears that won't yellow probably can't handle the temps. You could try a small section with the VHT clear and see if it holds up, for a season then if good, do the whole pipes over winter or something.

Spent a couple of days with my pals at the Kawasaki Triples Canada forum this past weekend. It sure is a hoot to hang with "like minded" individuals. :D

At my count, there were 14 Triples there on Friday night. Fun!!

One of the boys trying the Mongrel on for size:

Saw this at the CVMG swap meet, at the Fairgrounds in Paris!! :D No... not for sale! :(

The Mongrel ran poorly on Friday, so the tuning wizards of KTC had a quick look and we determined it had a fouled plug and the carbs were out of sync fo sho! A quick qnd dirty sync and a plug change later, and it was much, much better. :) Power would flatten out a little between an indicated 5,500 to 6,500 rpm, but exploded from there right past 8,000 which is 500 over redline! :D (ya, I backed off there!) Gotta love that furious rush of 2 stroke hp!! ;D

No doubt there's more midrange hp available with some time spent on fine tuning, but I'm pretty happy for now anyway. 8)
