Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

I had a change of name after watching a movie. Dazed and Confused is one of my favourites. Wooderson (Matthew McConaughey) drove a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 and its name was Melba Toast.

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

Today i wire wheeled alot of parts that are going to be bear. I also painted a few of the small bits. Started to get the engine out so i can thoroughly clean it.

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

Hoosier's got it! I was thinking similar paint job, but racing stripes seem to be a cafe thing...

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

DO IT!
Dark grey metalic and white stripes= awesome!
My older step bro had a She-velle back in the late '70s when I was but a middle school lad and I always thought that car was the SHIT! Bet he freaks when he sees what they are worth now!

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

The mag wheels on the zuki look like the ones on the car too, bonus 8)

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

I like your idea Hoosier! think ill use it thank you! The idea to name it after a chevellle happens to tie into home aswell, my dad has a 69 chevelle ss, not the same year but close haha

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

Just wrestled the engine out of the frame! that was fun, concidering im 130 pounds, and the engines probably the same... But its out! ;D

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

When you go back together, lay the engine on it's side and lower the empty frame down onto it and drop the bolts in from the top... much easier. ;)

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

Thanks! I tried it like that to get it out... but still had it a roller, which didnt help me one bit haha

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

Bought a battery today.... Just bought a stock one, well its about an inch smaller in heigth and width, seems to me canada doesnt have any cheap small ones. Im making a box to house the battery and put it under the swingarm, puts more weight below which is good for balance and keeps it out of the way! ;D

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

Ive boughten a few taillights, and they are just not right for the bike, so ive decided im going to make my own. It is made from a 1950's supercycle bike reflecter, part of a taillight i bought, and a small electric motor casing out of a '94 GMC truck.

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

That should be cool... keen to see how you make it work!

Re: Jello's Gs400 build "Melba Toast"

Got some little stuff done today. Found some foot pegs that arnt as bulky as stock ones, the are passenger pegs off of a cb125. I also finished the tallight, minus painting the housing, i like it!

Spent a good hour and a half looking for parts today at Cycle Salvage. I freakin love that place, its basically a junkyard for motorcycles and snowmobiles, but they take care of all the bikes coming in. Not to mention they are mostly 80's and back bikes! Anywho back to the story, i picked up these goodies:

Sweet fender, finally found one that looks just right to me. Cost? $5

Dirt bike front wheel, Bonus! the tire is new! and its on road tread! Cost? $25! It will also clean up the handle bars. Im selling the complete disk brake if anyones interested :D Name your price, with or without wheel.

And a new lid ;D

Today after work i mounted the front tire. Luckily the axle is the same size! sweeeeeet! All thats left is to cut the old spacer in half so the wheel will stay in place. Another bonus is the brake stay on the drum and the stay on the fork, fit together, kinda. Itll definately be safe enough for stopping but you never know.
