Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid/ Christine: CASE BACK OPEN...

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid". Pic whoring on page 28

Man, you fellas know how to make a guy feel good :)

I pulled the pipes off tonight to just look at them a little more. The second they hit the floor, literally all the silver paint fell off! I looked into coating, and it turns out Performance coatings is in Washington. Not too far away, so shipping won't take too long, and they say a week turnaround! Not as bad as I thought, and for not a bad price, either.

So I loaded the now-naked pipes in the truck, and I will ship them out tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Oh, Chris...they call that caffeine nowadays, eh? Didn't know they sold that in clear glass bottles... :D

Seriously, thanks guys!!

Sober as a bird! I know, weird.

;D

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid". Pic whoring on page 28

What kinds of color are you thinking about for the ceramic coating? I had an old cruiser that I really liked the pipes on but the chrome was all shot. I had them coated with a silver ceramic and polished. It comes out like shiny silver color, almost like polished aluminum but not quite. It wouldn't be as bright as the rest of your bike but it wouldn't be as out of place as dirty header wrap either.

Chris: You should fix that! ;) Thanks again, man

John: I am going to get it done in the chrome colored coating. I agree with you that it should look the part--better even than the exhaust paint!

Thanks for talking me out of wrap guys, I had a moment of I-want-it-done-now, and I would have regretted it!

As the devil's advocate, and a eternal voice of dissent, I think the wrap would add a needed bit of contrast and texture. I haven't spoke up on this one yet, though I've been following closely, and I have to say that this beast is beyond worthy of acclaim. I'd be surprised if you weren't getting hit up by the regular blogs before you even finished it.

At the very least the local news is gonna harass you about the missing kids and old ladies that your gonna have to sacrifice to the evil moto-gods for the right to ride that animal.

Are you going to make up a front mudguard to match the rest of the bodywork? It deserves a better one than the stocker.

Looking nice, but would look better with dirty bars IMO ;D

Ha ha! I will be prowling the streets looking for victims. Lure them out to look at the Gulf, and then pounce!

So I shipped the pipe off to be coated in Chromex ceramic. I am guessing about a two week turn around, or so. I think it will look much, much better than the aluminum paint did, and will certainly hold up to everything I can throw at it. It just took a little peer pressure to get me movin' :D

And yep, the Texalium fender is going to happen. Texalium looks cool, and has the added benefit of when someone asks what your fender is made of, you can stick your hands in your pockets, lean back, spit your chew, and say ""Oh, plain old, garden variety Texalium..." ;D (But it really does look good).

Thanks for all the input and motivation, fellas!

I think you'll be pretty happy with the ceramic coat, espcially from a durability standpoint. Don't have to worry about polishing it all the time like other finishes, don't have to worry about replacing worn out header wrap and if it gets scratched just use some rubbing compound and you're good to go.

Thanks John, the benefits are many! This is all for the best anyway, since riding is a ways off--gives me something to look forward to. Also, I ordered a Caswell kit for the tank. It has a very small seep, just enough to smell like gas if you are down next to it. It's not really a leak, but more of a scent. So just as a preventive measure so I never have to think about it again, I am going to coat it. After these steps, it's on to the Texalium!

Oh, Crescent: What do you say to getting a new board under the Big Arse Projects heading: We would have Restorations, Specials, Cafe Racers, Bob and Chop, Trackers, and then, Dawn of the Apocolypse! Tim should really think about it ;D

I bet he'd be down... cuz you don't piss off road warriors and zombie hunters. ;)

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid". Pic whoring on page 28

There are three Zombie Apocolypse bikes that immediately come to mind.

Kool-Aid
Crescent's
Big Rich's dirty GR.

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid". Pic whoring on page 28

wow man!! come back from FL and the bike is done!!! looks great! one thing John was mistaken on... ceramic is NOT a durrable coating... it is great for heat but sucks for durrability. just be careful with it bud rocks and stuff chip the piss out of it
bike looks amazing!

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid". Pic whoring on page 28

Hey thanks man! It's not done yet, though...I am waiting on the pipe, the Caswell for the tank, and Ringo and I are going to build a front fender for it. More coolness still to come!

My sleds all had ceramic pipes, and I decided on that for the heat. I'm not too concerned about the rust protection and stuff, since this thing gets ridden only rarely (when I'm in a "rare" mood :D ), so never in water or crap. It should look awesome, though!

While waiting, however, I did order a 21" Fat Daddy radial spoke wheel for the front of my Softail...it don't get more bling than that! ;D

Great, and next is the 780 series tire/wheel/swingarm, the 3.5"chrome exhaust kit with diesel truck style stacks, the fairing with sixteen cup holders and a 28 disk CD changer... ;)
