Ok, another question. I'm not scared of fabbing my own seat but I work in marketing and naturally look to save hours. My question is buy and modify, or fab. Here are my constraints.
1. Pretty lines ala the Aston head-rest in the previous post
2. Room to mount a light weight battery under the hump
Has anyone seen a manufactured seat that meets those recs?
I don't think that's been done since the 50's, may have to go back to 1930's streamliner pics for idea's?
Personally, I don't like batteries under seat hump
I like stuff where I can get at it if I need to, plus, moving weight far back and high up affects handling.
Most people don't seem to care and prefer battery to be hidden though (which is fine as long as you don't have a problem)
I'm all about looks but not at the cost of performance. I'm planning on running small Li-ion type batts so. This exercise is largely academic but where and how are the ideal placements? I'm thinking low and central (guessing) but how would you mount a battery there and where would be better? I live on a curvy mountain road.
Remove the tool box and use those mounts.
I use a larger battery mounted there (8A/hr sealed)
You will need a better regulator rectifier than can control voltage better than stock with a lithium ion battery, quick search through 360 builds should give you a bunch of information
So, I'm thinking of names. Dunno, Yoko? Not that she's breaking up the band but I'm just not that creative right now.
Any way, a question for another day. Back to the business at hand. Let me get my bible.
"And on the 11th day God left the Sawsall where the kids could reach it. And it was good."
Knocked a coupe of tabs off, cleaned up a few parts and back-halved the bike. I'm going to see how this plays our for the dimensions I'm looking for so fingers crossed.
Also found out that I suck at putting on vinyl stripes... the hard way... Pics to come.
So, it's been about 100 degrees every day for a couple of weeks so the garage isn't quite calling my name right now. More work to come, soon. I promise.
Ok, so I played with the angle grinder for a few, chopped some tabs, ground some metal, and started my seat form. Fun night full of noise and metal shavings.
As I've been planning and waiting on parts I started obsessing about the lines of the tank versus the seat cowl and started cutting. I think I'm going to flatten it just a touch to flow better off the tank. Here's the start. And the obsessing continues.
How many here have rebuilt their hand controls and switches. The more I look around, the less I find that I like. I'm thinking ground-up refinish and rewire.
Any hurdles or roadblocks I should know about? Mine are in pretty good shape already, I've just never really broken one of these down.
Get 90 degree bent nose circlip pliers
They need to be longer than the replaceable tip type and I've never found a straight set that will actually work without grinding the outsides to fit into bore
I got mine from Mikes XS but they don't seem to be stocking them any longer
This is the type you need
