My first cafe build - CB360T

Alright. Thought I was done for the night but hit my second wave and started prepping for the rest of the week.

Sanded, smoothed, and primed my headlight bucket,

Cleaned my detail bench and stripped the hand controls os anything other than electrical (and the master cylinder). Got it all laid out for the next round. You guys have a great night. I'm out.

*sorry for the phone pics.

It cooled down a little tonight so I tinkered for an hour. No real progress but the mock ups are always fun.

So vacations are done, business trips out of the way and the damned heat finally broke for a second so I'm tinkering. Mockup continues on the rearsets, headlight, and gauge mount. Here are a few phone pics.

Getting close to making an exhaust choice and honestly, I'm thinking straight pipes long enough to get past the rearsets and calling it a day. I plan on wrapping the exhaust in titanium wrap anyway. Anyone know any reason not to go that route?

You lose all the low and mid range torque but could get a 'kick' around 8~9,000rpm
The only other disadvantage, it's obnoxiously loud and sounds like a fart at mid rpm ;D

I've got some Sportster one's I'm intending to use on 'blue bike' if I don't use the RMZ250 ones

A few more from the seat fab.

Next up is a layer of foil, then plastic wrap, then comes the cloth, matting, and epoxy. Time to get smelly!

And a few more on the seat. I managed to get a couple of layers of resin and cloth down. I'm going to let it cure for a couple of days then pop the form off and start the internal bracing. ...and then... The sanding.

Seat pan looks nice... I'm gonna ask, and it's out of personal experience.... what are your plans for a battery?

If it's going under the bump, better make sure it fits. Lithium Ion batteries aren't a good choice for these bikes and a 7A/hr battery would not fit under my bump and it looks similar in size. I'd recommend dry fitting your battery before going to the trouble of doing the finishing work on the seat pan.

Thanks! It's my first go at a seat so here's hoping it turns out.

i was planning on a small sealed or gel battery with hopes that it will fit. My initial measurements were pretty close but I won't know until I get the batt in and test. Fingers crossed. I figure worst case, I can recess it into the pan I'm putting under the bump for the fuses/relays.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely test before I start finish work. Now I've just got to find some patience. Hah!

she is looking great.
But, dont go too deep w the recessed electrics tray. your tire could bottom out on it.
With the stiff ass shocks I have installed, Ive got a bit more than 2.5"of clearance and haven't bottomed out yet. knocking on wood. I weigh 170lbs.

Thanks again. I'm looking at longer coil overs to lift the rear a touch and I'm going to go pretty aggressive on spring rate so here's hoping I can keep my 190 lbs out of my rear tray. Lol. What shocks did you use?

After reading a few posts in the tanks & seats section, I decided to strengthen a few key areas before I pop the form out. Basically, I'm working on all edges and anywhere that feels flimsy.

It's starting to look like something now.

I also had to put the shift lever from Dime City on a bit of a diet to fit my linkages. Easy enough.

Now. Another question. What's a good SMALL sealed or gel battery? I'm dealing with limited space (obviously) and would like to keep it hidden.

I am using an Xtreme AGM battery from Batteries Plus (about $80 after taxes), Mounted on it's side even Mine's a 6A/hr battery. If you are keeping your electric start, that's probably too small, mine had trouble keeping up with the starter, I'd get a couple of starts but the charging system could not replenish the battery enough on short rides. So I ditched the starter finally.

My use of LED lights and no electric start has the 6A/Hr working out just fine now. I just switched my head light bulb from a 35/35 to a 60/50... (my headlight uses H4 bulbs) the 60/50 is what I had on hand when the low beam went out the other day, I need to take some measurements to see if I am still charging with it, Headlight and Ignition are my only real current draws everything else is probably still less than half an amp if they were all on. I might be okay.)

60/55 will work as long as your using a lot of rpm all the time (5,000+ rpm)
Brendon has no problems.
I use 35/35 H4, they are easily available as they are used by a lot of scooters
