My first cafe build - CB360T

I am using an Xtreme AGM battery from Batteries Plus (about $80 after taxes), Mounted on it's side even Mine's a 6A/hr battery. If you are keeping your electric start, that's probably too small, mine had trouble keeping up with the starter, I'd get a couple of starts but the charging system could not replenish the battery enough on short rides. So I ditched the starter finally.

My use of LED lights and no electric start has the 6A/Hr working out just fine now. I just switched my head light bulb from a 35/35 to a 60/50... (my headlight uses H4 bulbs) the 60/50 is what I had on hand when the low beam went out the other day, I need to take some measurements to see if I am still charging with it, Headlight and Ignition are my only real current draws everything else is probably still less than half an amp if they were all on. I might be okay.)

Great info and thanks for including lighting options. On that battery, what are the dimensions (roughly)? Also, being new to this world, how hard are these bikes to kick start?

Dimensions on my battery are roughly 4.5"x4.5"x3"

If ignition and fuel are right they are an absolute breeze to kick start.

Stock 360 is real easy to kickstart, just don't try to start it like a 125 mx bike (what I call 'slap start')
A steady push through from the top is all that's needed, don't let kickstart lever fly back up, it will eventually break case

Thanks to both of you. I'm considering a kickstart for the charge savings as well as for the cool factor. Just don't know yet. Do you think this battery would handle the electric start? Some quick measuring says it should fit.

That should be fine for use with electric start, 12A/hr is 'stock' battery
You really should do around 10~15 miles between using for electric starter to allow battery to recover

And worked on the shift linkage a little. Think I'm going to have to flip the swingarm pivot bolt. Having a little bit of clearance drama.

Good to know. I live about 15 miles from my office. Should be good to go for commuting. Thanks!

Anyone have any suggestions on kickstands? It's looking like my rearsets, my feet, and my kickstand are going to have words as soon as I try to shift gears.

Picture please... My kickstand is stock and no problems. Are you referring to the center stand by chance?

Both, actually. Here are a couple with the bike on the rear stand with kick and center stands up.

I haven't noticed any problems either and mine are about the same position
You could always chop the end off?
Just realised, I put 3/4" thick spacers behind footrest and frame

Sounds like we have a plan. Thanks guys.

And after all the work today, I rolled her out to sit with her sister while I cleaned. I can't wait for this to be the decision of the day.

I dont know this for certain... Looks like you may have to make a "stop" of some kind that bolts to the footpeg bracket to keep the center stand out of the chain, anyways.

I have that issue with the center stand... My solution was to remove the center stand. :) I still have the brackets, When I need to use it I just slip it on and right back off when I am finished.

And after looking at your foot pegs, I would think that adding about a 1 inch spacer between the foot peg and mount would take care of your problems.

Any reason why a guy wouldnt just cut the sidestand off and move it forward on the frame 4-6 inches...would it become anymore tippy?

Thanks guys. I'll try the spacer first, then a stop. Worst case, I'll remove. Aren't these little popup issues fun? Would have never thought I'd have kickstand issues when installing rearsets.

My buddy moved his side stand on his cb550 forward on the frame. Works fine

No...

They are the un-fun, the anti-fun, sans-fun...

Oh Nate! This is the stuff that makes us better mechanics. If it was simply bolt on chrome and ride...ALL the Harley riders would be building them.
