Pics to follow...

Recent arivals to the pile of crap I seem to be collecting:

-Real Mikuni VM30s from an arctic cat snowmobile. $40 shipped! In good working order!
-'75 XL175 tank, cb750(?) headlight, custom intake adapters for the weird crf 250 Mikunis were experimenting with for the cb350 motor (actually all donations/trades for the chop project from BradJ)
-Cool hand printed Koolhouse Publishing T-Shirt by artist Tick-One

Ya man... Kiley directed me to the ebay auction, and I emailed the guy to see if he'd sell em straight out. When he said $40 shipped I couldnt log into PayPal fast enough! ha ha ha

How much for that pinstriping kit, Leon?

like $60 on ebay for the set of 5 brushes:

I also have a Mack striping swords.. I find that the Mack brushes are great for pulling nice long straight or wavy lines with consistency..
I find that the Kafka brushes are much better for pulling scrolling and tight turn lines and freestyle flame outline/designs...

If you want to get into that, Id get both.. I use them interchangbly as I paint...

Von, if you don't have it already....Sudco has a decent tuning 'manual' though it's part marketing rag too.
I believe you'll need different jets for your four stroke vs. the 2 smoker in the sled.

von looks like you and i are in the same tuning boat... but you got the wizzard out there by you to help! i am sure he learned a ton on Gretta!

Sled carbs are typically jetted rich for the cold dense air, but watch out for the needle and seat. They use pumps so they are fitted with 1.5mm needle a seat and you need 3.0 - 3.5 for gravity feed.

Needle jets are typically Primary type and can be replaced with Bleed types but it take a well calibrated butt to tell the difference between the two.

Mmm...shiny new engine bits! NOS Suzuki 0.5mm oversize pistons, rings, and new pins, bearings, and clips.

gt550/gt750 4ls front drum: $75, I <3 craigslist.

Will need to rechrome all the chrome pieces and I may end up sending it out to a drum brake specialist to make sure everything is in tip top shape. But still, seeing as these sell in various states of crudiness on ebay for anywhere between $300 and $1000, its a pretty good deal.

No shit! I've been looking for one of those for months dude! $75 is friggin incredible! Good on ya, put it to good use!!

if I may, what is so special about that part that warrants a 300-1000 price range? Is it just a rarity? Are there no other dual shoe setups like that?

ya, only the '72 model year of the gt550 and 750 came with a drum, so its pretty damn rare. But ya, their prices are super inflated and do not really represent what they are worth. I'm not sure I would have paid much more for this one. You can get a brand new grimeca for somewhere around $700, so an unbuilt, old, crusty gt7/550 drum is not worth anywhere near what they are selling for. But this is what happens with old school stuff that somehow becomes legendary. As the scene gets bigger, you start to get more people for which price is not a concern, they just want to have that object which has become legendary in the given scene. They get into bidding wars, and suddenly things are selling for way more than they are worth.

Which leads me to a tough decision. I got the drum for relatively cheap, and it is highly unlikely that I will find one again at a price I am willing to pay, yet I could just turn around and sell it for an exorbitant amount of money and dump that right back into my bike. On the other hand, I can keep it on a shelf for now, and restore and fit it to one of my projects when I have the money. It will likely be the latter, but the first option sure will be tempting every time money is tight and I want to buy other parts for my bikes...

Anyways, does anyone know anything about these drums? It might be hard to see in the crappy cellphone pic, but the vents have these sort of ribbed covers on them. But they don't have any perforations, so the ram air cooling can't work. Are these just an accessory for the street so that you don't get crap in your drums during light brake usage around town? From the inside you can see that there are indeed perforated screens underneath these weird little covers..
