Daaaamn, Looks fantastic my friend. Turned out sick. I think the pin strips and clear will really set it off big time. Really like the badges too. Just wait till you get that stuff back on the bike! Can't wait.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Hey Troy, thanks brother! I'm glad you like it man! Hey, got a question on the pistripes...do you think I should but them up to the pewter or offset them...leaving a white between the black and pewter. I'm kind of torn on that. They're definitely going on there to tie the black from the motor/wheels into the paint scheme, I just don't know if the offset will be too much...maybe too crowded. I hope that this helps your fix bro! Maybe it'll get you to the next update at least!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Ok, I've stopped shaking for now. You can remove the tourniquet from my arm, hahaha
Good stuff!

that is a good question bro. I like the idea of the extra stripe. Although it could get kinda tight/busy on the top. Depends on how wide I guess. Where are all the photo shop pros when you need em?

you mean something like this (quick-and-dirty):

I have a preference, but it's not my bike. Based on your stunning efforts to date, I have every confidence that you will choose the right option. Truly an inspiration my friend.

cheers

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Man, thank you so much bikeboy! That is so awesome of you to do, and that's exactly what I wanted to see...it helps me out so much, you have no idea!!!!

I'd love to hear your preference man. It's great to hear an outside perspective, it helps me not get stuck in my own little world. I have to tell you, you couldn't have read my mind better...I was even thinking 1/8" stripes just like you posted.

I'm really leaning toward the no gap on there. I like the black right on the pewter I think. Really defines the striping.

Brother, really, that is just awesome. I appreciate your props as well. Good stuff ;D ;D ;D

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Def black on peuter, that will look awsome!! I gotta say man, and I'm an old fuck, but I'm not feelin' the badges. they look, well, a little cheap and you have such an awesome, unique build going. I say let your engineering stand out and leave the bling for someone else. Or grow a mullet ;D

Just one old fuck's opinion.

I have great admiration for your ingenuity.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Ive always been a sucker for the gap between the scallop/racing strip/whatever and the pin stripe.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

That looks great! I say if you go with the pinstripe gap, leave out the emblems, but if you do decide to go gapless with the pinstriping, go ahead and use the emblems.

I really like the pinstriping with the gap though :).

My pleasure ;)

FWIW, I like the gapless version. Less 'busy'. But then again, I'm not too keen on your badges, so what does that say about me ;D

cheers mate. Love this build of yours.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

If it was me I'd save those emblems for a bobber project. They really don't compliment the "vintage racer" feel you have worked so hard for. I would take a second look at either using a vintage winged honda emblem, or nothing. Sometimes the biggest statement is no statement.

As far as the stripes go, if your edges arn't the prettiest, put the black stripe on the silver to cover the ugly. Otherwise set the black stripe off an 1/8". Also don't feel the need to putt the black up. Maybe think about using a color. Orange would look killer. so would that green color you were thinking about for the tank!

But what do I know?

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Hy guys! I really appreciate the thoughts and tips. don't worry about saying what you think on here, it helps me see things from a different light, and that's really why I post on here. It helps keep us out of a bad habit rut.

This tank took me 2 hours just to stripe/tape off. It is curvy in every aspect and was a bit@h to come up with a design that suited the build. The gap in the stripe looks great, but I think that if I was going to go with a gap, I would do the pin in the same pewter color. It's too much in a black, but it would be more subdued sticking with 2 colors only. The problem with that is that it defeats the whole purpose of using the black to tie the black wheels and such in with the frame.

As far as the badges go, I like them. I know they aren't for everybody, but they do indeed have a vintage feel to me. The honda wings have been done before, and this bike is all about innovation and breaking the mold, so these badges suit the build. BUT I am definitely open for badge suggestions...this build is far from done, and now is the time to make those decisions. So here's a project for you guys. Look around and see what you come up with badge wise. Originally, my idea was to use a star emblem (not like a texas star, but like a north star at Christmas style) with long arms on it like an old oldsmobile....

but those suckers are expensive WHEN you can find them.

So there you go, the method behind the madness.

This is cool guys, I like swapping ideas back in forth. It's really why we're all here. It's like having a tech/design team on staff!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I like the "star" idea. Fits much better. it's nice and simple, but doesn't understate the build success of your build. you should make your own from aluminum. then you can polish them up, powder, paint, whatever! if your worried about doing things that people have done before, you'll be running out to go get some 6061 right now!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

decepticon for sure. So youll be a hit with the kids! Im thinking perhaps something alittle more chill though. That star is rad. I think the pheonix works, but it might give the bike too wild of a feel. Its too modern? Paint looks deadly. Im using an old chrysler silver for my steed as well. Looks killer.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Man, you guys rock so hard!

I may attempt to make some bc, it would be a feat with the tools I have but would look sweet indeed!

And I have to say, that orange is rad! I would have never thought that would look so good. I'm wondering if yellow would work... The reason I wonder is because the ducati shock is yellow and that would just tie the whole thing together....

Thank you guys so much for everything. The props, the pointers and help, and the photoshop work. You kids really are amazing!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I think the badges aren't getting the love because of the level offset in that pic. I really dig 'em. If they achieve what you want, go with it. I churned this out really quick, I just hope it helps win over the nay-sayers. I had to play with the brightness and contrast quite a bit so it looks smokey, but at least the emblem is not as shadowed.

Sorry for the delayed response, been working on my own resurrection a lot. Gretta looks hot in those colors I must say. Keep it coming!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

That is f*^king Tits!! Oh my lord... I like the emblems a lot, but maybe put the bike together before deciding indefinitely. It might be too bling, but you never know, it could look amazing when it's all together.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Wow!! I'm really impressed with the paint work. Well done! Personally, I like the understated tank lines better, but that's just me. I really like the pictured emblem as well. This bike is turning out very well done.

On a different note, there is absolutely nothing wrong with my Republic of Texas' star. Just cause 'Bama has a decent football team this year, doesn't mean you need to talk trash on texas :)

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Holy shit crescent! That looks so fuggin wicked!!!!

Looks so good! And that actually makes the paint look more true to life. It's very metallic.

Dude, I dunno, those emblems are just cool....so many thougts. And brother, don't worry about the time issues, I totally understand. I just appreciate the compliments and love!

And docta, you're right, it will really tell the story once she s assembled. Thanks for the props man!

I'm really thinkig about a black and yellow pistripe now. I dunno lay be too much. If I did that I might have to add a small yellow band to the front fork legs to tie it all in...then it would match the rear shock...unless somebody knows how to take apart a mono so I can paint it orange...I can't figure out how to get that bugger apart!!

That reminds me, I bougt a new shock too off of eBay. It's identical to the one I have but without the nitrogen reservoir. I got it for cheap and did it to combat the possible future clearance issues with the reservoir and the pods/stacks on the carbs. We'll see soon! Man I am lovin this brainstorming!!!!
