Honestly, I know this will sound dumb to most people here but inwould leave the spring and shock how it is, the yellow spring gives it just enough attention to draw an eye to the bike and breaks up the earth tones a little bit.....leave it for now till the entire bike is together then decide.

doesnt sound retarded at all! I think this is good advice. If you are undecided on the spring, than wait until the end to make your decision.

I really do love the little flare of color but ultimately it's your bike so do what you want

I'm with these guys ;) I'd try red, but the colour makes a bit of a statement. bit like an exclamation mark at the end of your build.

(can you tell I'm a graphic designer--full of bullshit ;D)

cheers

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Thanks guys for the input! I am still undecided on the whole shock hing, so thanks to my DTT brothers' advice, I will be waiting a while on it. It's good for now functionally, so that's enough for the moment. If I did leave it yellow, I might add a yellow band on the fork legs somewhere to tie it all in together. And maybe yellow plug wires like BC suggested. I'll make that decision when I get there, because as for now, I can't figure out how to take the damned thing apart anyway. I can' find a retaining clip anywhere!

But you guys could be right, it might need that little pop of color to keep it from becoming bland. Thanks fellas, good brain candy there! ;D

Hey! +1 on the red! I think it would look great wiht the color scheme. I also agree you should wait til yer done and decide.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Just a quick note on the flex-paint versus regular paints, I painted the springs on my cb900 shocks about a year ago with plain old rustoleum semigloss black and they've held up very nicely. I'm sure the appliance epoxy would work as well. And I like the idea of a black spring.
Also Kiley, your bike is coming together perfectly, I love everything; the brown accents, the extended swingarm, the super agressive riding stance, and the wrinkle black on the motor. That fender looks sick as well. Congrats dude, this is gonna be bike of the month as soon as you can get it to Show-n-Shine! This fucker is front page bike mag material. I can't say enough!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Yeah I'll see what sticks out with me when it's all put together. Black is what's callng me in my head, but there is definitely a possibility that it needs some nice but subtle accent color. I could dig red...it might compliment the bike well...give it that European racer look with the gold. Another color I considered was British racing green. I just don't want to go overboard visually. I think it's s fine line between perfect and gaudy. Aesthetics is really the hardest part of building a bike!!!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Guys I can't tell you enough how much it means to get the nod of approval from you dudes. It's one thing to get compliments from folks on the street, but to get them frm he guys that eat sleep and shit cafes and stink like the same old grease and metal dust is really the highest compliment I could get. You guys get it, and that's why it means so much. Thanks brothas! 8)

if you get those CR carbs then you could paint the spring the same color as the red orange lettering on the carbs thatd tie it together really nice

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Now that's an idea. And on that note I shot an email to cyclex last night. Told them my setup and what not, so we'll see what they say. The more I read up on those carbs, the more I dig them.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

they are really nice carbs, beautiful looking too....so much more refined looking than mikunis or the stock units

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

In other news, I'm thinking of this for the gauge solition. Simple and elegant single tach. What do you all think?

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I love those speedo integrated headlight buckets! But have you considered the Acewell electronic speedo/tacho? They're about $130 but it's a really clean setup that includes indicators as well. You can tuck it in to have a clean look.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Really nice job thus far. I really dig the tank and the color combo

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I have thougt about that good. I may use an acewell to eliminate some cable clutter. I think they operate off of the coil for the tach and a wheel sensor for the speedo. That would look good sunk into a headlight I think! Thanks for the tip bud!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Hey thanks squadracorse! Much appreciated!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I almost always hate how those headlight buckets look with the frenched in tach or speedo. The idea is cool on paper, but it almost always looks goofy to me.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Glad to help man! I'm considering getting one their gauges in the future as well.

And don't forget: big headlight bucket, big....

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I really like the bucket speedo! as long as it doesn't make your bike look too long on the front end I think it will look awesome. Very Simple and no clutter, just the bars and the bucket light.
