Wow man, this is just sweet as hell! I love what you have done with the bike; it is really a perfect blend of old and new! I think you should go with a color from your tins for the spring. There is no way I would stick some off the wall color in that perfect scheme you have created! I feel if you paint the spring white you could get a nice effect of an attention getter without it being the elephant in the room, if your picking up what I'm putting down! As far as the single clock recessed into the bucket, why hell yes, just another mix of old and new to carry on with your theme! This bike has tons of class; yellow, red, or any other color that you have not already used anywhere else on the bike, just does not belong IMO!

I cannot wait to get up there and see this thing first hand and just hear the stories of your work. Keep it up man, your work is amazing!

Like tWistedWheelz described, white spring + black shock.

In other news, I'm thinking of this for the gauge solition. Simple and elegant single tach. What do you all think?

That's what I'm saving up for. I love that look! It makes the lines much more amazing. Thanks goodfornothing, I didn't know those acewell gauges were so inexpensive... May have to think about that one some more. I was thinking of maybe trying 7" headlight on a 350. With the way most aftermarket headlights clamps are constructed I think you could probably squeeze a 7" in instead of the 6" so it's not as long and stretched out, that is if you're thinking of going the BCR bucket route.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

The one shown above is long, don't buy one! BUILD ONE! I am sure that is what Kanticoy is planning on, and the acewell, custom recessed in a regular bucket, maybe raise it with a 1/2 inch or so fiberglass besel, oh yeah! Thats tits!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

That truly is a thing of beauty. Great work on the build so far.

There is this $50 mod from Liam:

liam said:
ok, here's one i've done that i haven't seen anyone else do.
your results may vary, things may not fit together, it may overheat and catch fire or something,

headlight bucket modded to fit speedo/tacho
cost: varies, if you have the stuff, like i did, then around $15 +your time
needed stuff: about 10cm2 of fibreglass cloth, resin to match, some kind of filler, i used water based wood/ genreal purpose filler, because it's easy to sand. paint and primer. headlight bucket and light assembly, tacho or speedo w/casing

why: i wanted to clear some space on my cb350 bars, lower the profile, and give it a hint of 60's styling.

process:
- dissasemble speedo
-take speedo case, mark inside bucket a circle the size of top, cut this out, look at it. do you like it's position etc. keep cutting bucket until you strike the perfect balance between useful position, aesthetics, and fitting the light assembly in the bucket. the back of my light touches the threaded drive on the bottom of the speedo, so it will be a close fit, depending on what you're using.
-when it all fits together, with all the parts in there, then you're ready to fix it.
-mask both sides of the speedo glass off. (i didn't do it on the inside, mistake!)
-tape the case to the bucket in your favoured position from the inside. check everything fits together again.
-fill all the gaps on the outside with filler, bulk it up and lay it on thick, it will sand of afterwards.
-after the filler has set, remove the tape from the inside and cut some stamp sized pieces of fibreglass. use these to cover all the bare filler, making sure to make a good connection to the bucket and case. make sure not to get any inside the speedo casing that would impede insertion. i did, and i doesn't go all the way in, but you guys are pretty talented, and neater then me, so you should be fine
-after the resin has set, start sanding the outside. sand all planes flat, make all the surfaces regular and make sure they match the changes of surface on the standard buckt.
-paint it.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

^ yes yes, just like that, I had seen that before and forgot where it was, sweet! I would like to see the besel a little thicker around the clock and flow it back to the bucket more rounded, hard to describe!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

you can also get a sportster or dyna top mount headlight trim, cut that out and drop the guage right on in... would be super easy to do!

please elaborate Joe. :)

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

sportsters and some early model dynas all have a top moutn headlight, meaning that it bolts to the upper trees, there is a chrome visor over that that bolts to the tree and the lamp bolts to that visor, to drop a speedo in, you would only need to cut a hole in the visor and the lamp bucket and drop in the speedo... done... would be very simple... personally i would not go with a gaudy big old school speedo i would get a new mini one and roll with that, would be clean and easy. if you need pics i just removed a top mount lamp from a dyna in the shop on fri i have it accessable when i get home.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

For what it is worth Gretta has that long and lean look. Even with a visor the lamp that is on there is squatty in comparison. I'd throw on the long bucket, and mount it as low as possible. If I were in front of my comp I'd churn u out a photoshop. Maybe in the am?

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Guys, I'm glad this has granted such interest from you fellas! I really helps getting the input from you guys. It is something that I have though over and over in my head, and on a whim I ordered a headlight.

It's a 6" light off of an early Ducati single with a 21mm gauge bucket in it. It is also 6" long and bullet shaped. And guess what, my aftermarket gauges are 21mm!

It will take some work to get it right, but anything worth doing is worth modifying, right!

This isn't a final solution indefinitely, I am still open to suggestions on this whole thing, so Joe, Let me know what that Harley light looks like...it sounds bada$$.

The other option was an early Honda dirt bike bucket which I still may do. I'll just have to see how it all looks.

Chris emailed me an updated shorter exhaust mockup today, and it's perfect. Right now I'm playing that "wait for the parts in the mail" game.

To all of you, I really appreciate the input, and because of it, I'm really digging the white spring idea. It looks great.

YOu guys are pure awesome!

Hang on a sec and I'll post a pic up and you can let me know what you think.

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Hell yeah bud, everyone is keeping the thread warm for you while you were away. hehehe.
Dude that bucket you ordered will rock! I think it will be perfect. Can't wait!
And yes on the white spring. I really didn't think I'd like it but it really looks good! Lots of choices now! Great stuff man! What a blast to watch this thing come together!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

The bucket:

Sorry for the crappy pics. They wouldn't compress correctly. You get the idea anyway.

Here's another one like it I stole from the web just to give an idea.:

I just might work!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Hey Boom, that's no problem man. I do well with skeptics. I had the same thoughts about the monoshock in the inception of Gretta...things work out.

Stay tuned!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

Kan sorry man i got roped into 1000 things last night and forgot to take a pic of the lamp for oyu.. after seeing the ducati lamp though... i have to say! GET THAT! that is perfect for that bike! ooh ya the visor on your lamp now, if you want to sell it let me know... i think my cafe needs one!

Re: Project Gretta: The evolution of a confused '74 360

I am glad you guys like the white spring idea, my useless thoughts do produce success every once in a while! I feel privileged to have contributed anything to this work of art!
