The 安いスリル CL360

You should be ashamed of yourself! Robbing the guy like that.

Resto's cost big $ (like everything else) so I'd part out the spare. Then use that money to fund the cafe. Any news on the title?

I didn't have a gun to his head so he could have said no. I'm honestly amazed he even went that low. When I was talking to him the first time he was asking if I only needed certain parts from it and why I was interested in it and so on. I think that's why he gave me the deal he did. I should also mention the bike came with the original scrambler pipes that are in a little better shape then the 360 I've been working on, and the pipes from the new bike still had the original mufflers and muffler heat shields too. The top one was rusted out but the bottom one just looked like some bad surface rust (still salvageable). Since I can make so much money parting it out, I probably will. How much do you think I can get for the scrambler exhaust, frame (without a title), front forks, wheels, the silver tank and side cover? I was thinking $50 for the frame, $20 for the forks, $40 for both wheels, and $50 for the tank and side cover. I have no idea what the exhaust is worth and I'll likely keep the engine around as a parts motor. Anyone need a CB350 parts motor?

the shocks are off a cb1100F. not rebuildable ordinarily.

Love that tank.

I'll be getting good rear shocks from another guy I know in Madison so the Showa shocks will be cleaned up and put on display either in my bedroom or in the basement by all the other car/bike memorabilia. I figure they will serve as a neat conversation piece.

Assuming you are talking about the gold/orange tank, I love it too. The problem is there are a couple dents that will have to get pulled and that means it will need new paint. I still undecided on the color but I know I want to keep the same stripe style on it. My uncles a body/paint guy and said he would just charge me for materials so I just need to pick a color and I can have a professional paint job for dirt cheap. There's just so many colors that I'm considering (I'll post the contenders when I get closer to finishing the bike).

you could try http://www.cbdecals.com, or http://www.reproductiondecals.com/default_frameset.html?hon13_content.html~main. Bought lots of stuff from both, and they're good to deal with. Not familiar with your model, but they seem to have some stuff. Certainly all the warning labels.

Thanks a ton!! I was worried I'd have to buy the $30+ decal sets I found on eGay. The second website will allow me to purchase only the ones I need. Thanks for saving me some $$. ;)

what shape are the forks in? cb350 motor or cb360?

The forks on the orange bike a squishy but the forks on the silver bike are really firm. Both have some rust developing at the top of the fork tubes. Both sets of forks are straight.

I have two CL360 motors and one CB350 motor. I'll probably be keeping the two CL360 motors and get rid of the CB350 motor since the parts wont swap over to the CL360 motors. The CB350 motor is in rough shape though.

I was starting to take measurements for rear sets when I looked at the spare bike and decided to see how the electrical stuff was on it. I hooked up a battery and nothing happened. Thinking maybe it's just another dead battery I hooked it up to the other bike and the lights turned on. Since it was all hooked up I decided to try and get the electric start going again. About 20 minutes later I had it working. The damn electric start finally works!!

These last couple days have been great! I got an amazing deal on another CL360, my stainless steel headers finally got here for my Camaro, I got the electric start going in the CL, I sold a bunch of car parts, my dad found a new motor for his truck, and he found a buyer for the old motor. This is awesome!!

After work I went out to warm up the vehicle and fell asleep in the drivers seat for 15 minutes so I figured I would eat breakfast and go to bed when I got home. Then I feel asleep while eating breakfast and only woke up about half hour ago. So, now I will finally post the video. :)

For rear sets, I'm looking for something like these '08 GSXR1000 rear sets. I need the peg and shift/brake lever pivot on them and close to the mounting bolts. If you have anything close let me know. The cheaper the better. :)

Keen to sell the spare set of pipes?

I'm in Australia so shipping is probably going to be steep...

I was planning on selling the spare set of pipes but I just though of another way to route the exhaust so I don't light my leg on fire so I'm going to hold on to them for a while yet. I'll probably get rid of them and everything else on the spare bike once the good bike is road worthy. I'll put a link to a "For Sale" thread in here when the time comes.

I have decided I want to keep the electric start. I figure any weight I would have lost by ditching it I can lose myself if I really want to save that 15 pounds or so. Since the battery will be kept and I haven't really put much thought into where the it will go I decided to make a pseudo battery for test fitting, and while I was at it I also made a pseudo starter solenoid. The battery I'm thinking of using is roughly 6"x3.5"x4.25" (anyone know of a smaller battery that would work?) and the starter solenoid was made to be 2-1/8" diameter and 2-3/4" tall.

I put them on the parts bike because the other has nothing for it to rest on. My plan is to weld a brace in connect the bottom of the frame tubes and also serve as the battery mount so it will only be sitting about 1" higher then that stock brace that goes across. I figure the starter solenoid will sit about 1/2" below the top of the battery so the tail can start to slope down right away. I'm hoping any tail light I use (I'll get pics in a few hours of the light I'm thinking of) will be able to fit between the bottom of the frame rail and the bottom of the start solenoid so I'll only have turn signals sticking out.

Depending on how vertical I want the tail section to be where it meets the seat, I can maybe move everything forward 1" at the most. Since the tail will stick out so far over the rear tire I'm thinking about reusing the stock hoop that is bolted in place but instead of bolting it I'd weld it.

Here are the run signals currently on the back of the bike. They look a bit more modern but they are starting to grow on me. Do you think I should still try to find some little round ones on a shorter shaft so they are closer to the bike?

122.jpg

123.jpg

Looking at those pics also made me realize why the left rear turn signal wasn't working. Turns out there is no bulb in the housing.
I swapped that out for a giant CBX turn signal and it works and the left side flashes now (but it flashes faster then the right side ). My only issue with lights now is that the turn signal indicator in the tach housing doesn't light up when the turn signals are on (I know that bulb works).

Since it looks like threads will be exposed if I trim the fender mounts off the lower shocks, do you think putting a bolt in there and then grinding it smooth would work? I was wondering if the bolt would eventually start to turn out that I should still use some two part epoxy stuff discussed earlier to fill it in then sand it all smooth and repaint?

121.jpg

I was also wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to mount the rear of the tank since it will be so much higher then stock. Should I weld a tab on the frame and reuse the little rubber piece or should I modify the bracket on the tank to reuse the rubber piece?

119.jpg

I have no idea how I'm going to mount the front of the tank. The little C shaped tabs that go around the rubber disks on the frame aren't even close to lining up. Do you think relocating the tabs on the tank will do the job?

I hate the giant metal hoop around the headlight so I've been thinking of a way to remount the headlight. So far my plan is to make some metal tabs that come off the gauge mount and then have bolts going through the (plastic?) headlight housing at the back. I'm hoping some dome shaped washers will prevent it from breaking off. Then I would mount the turn signals to the headlight where the original headlight mounts were. It would help hide a little bit of wiring and give the floating effect again.

120.jpg

I went to the shed and stole the tail light of my dad's KTM. In the first pic, if I have a battery with it's largest dimension being 5.5" then I can it and it will still fit between the frame tubes. Turns out the KTM battery is a little too tall so the starter solenoid will be higher then the battery if I put it on the tail light. I do like the way the KTM light closely matches the curve of the stock rear frame hoop which makes me want to keep the stock hoop even more. If only the top wasn't curved so I would get that extra 3/8".

What do you think, find one for my bike or keep looking?

Here are some of the parts I got at the Jefferson swap meet on Saturday. All this cost me $2. The tag is no longer on that brake lever but I think it said 02-04 Yamaha R1.

130.jpg

I also picked up some misc other stuff like a transmission cooler, a fan for the cooler, and a new-to-me motor for my car. My dad's big purchase of the day was a giant tunnel ram intake for a 383 Mopar motor. The thing is 12" tall!

ANOTHER NEW MOTORCYCLE!!!

On the way home from the swap meet we stopped by the house of a guy my dad works with to pick up my newest motorcycle. It's a 1981 CB900Crud. When you look at the pictures you'll know why I say the "C" stands for crud. lol

These are from shortly after I got it and right before I took it to one of those wash bays and literally sprayed the crap out of it for 6 minutes...

4.jpg

Here it is in the driveway after the 6 minute pressure wash bath and a short blast down the road at 55mph...

5.jpg

6.jpg

8.jpg

It has ~24k miles on it, it hasn't run in 9-10 years, but it does turn over and I do have a tittle for it. The best part is that I got it for free so after the power wash, I only have $3.50 invested in the whole thing. ;D

Last night I checked the compression of both CL360 motors and this is what I got...

Orange bike
Left cylinder: 150psi
Right cylinder: 165psi

Silver bike
Left cylinder: 152psi
Right cylinder: 130psi

Based on the electronic shop manual I have, the numbers should be 171psi for like new conditions and if they are below 149psi, the motor should be torn down and rebuilt. I suppose that means I can use the orange bike as is for now but with a rebuild in its near future.

I think I'd attach this from the other end, and relocate the rubber mounting disks? They just slip over a 'tube' you could easily replace with some round bar pushed through a suitable hole in the frame and welded together?

Didn't explain that very well did I?

How's this:
tankMount.jpg

I think you can make out the original mounting towards the front, and the new one welded in place? (not mine by the way)

ian

lol that picture did all the talking for you. Thanks. ;)

My most reason thought about this was to leave the C shaped tabs alone and cut out the raised round section around the tube and cut a hole in the correct location then weld in the raised rounded section and tube in the new hole and weld flat sheet to fill the original hole. I suppose the left over bump in the frame wouldn't be that bad and moving just the tube would make things WAY easier.

I've decided to use the stock plastic housing (or a metal one in a similar shape) for the headlight. instead of using the bolt holes on the side to mount it, I'll use them to mount the turn signals like so...

131.jpg

With the giant stock directionals taken care of, I just need to get rid of the ugly metal hoop holding the headlight and I need to hide all those wires and cables going through behind the headlight. To solve the wire problem, I flipped the headlight 180*.

Before being flipped...
132.jpg

133.jpg

After being flipped...
135.jpg

134.jpg

Then I decided to make the mounting permanent by fabbing up a quick metal bracket to hold it in place. However, I injured myself in the process. When I was cutting some metal, I had this somehow make it behind my safety glasses and hit me in the eye. After flushing my eye with water for a bit here is what I saw in the sink...

136.jpg

This happened about 45 minutes ago and my eye is still hurting and more so when I blink. Maybe more metal is still in there? I can see fine so I guess I'm not too worried. Apparently all those good deals I got needed to be balanced out.

I figured that was a sign that maybe cutting and welding metal wasn't a good idea for the night so it's back inside I go.

now you're talking fella ;D You can play with the big boys now. Good score. I've seen a few of these that present well after all the shit is taken off them, and they pull like a 15 year old school boy ;)

look forward to seeing the write-up.

Well, shit has officially hit the fan. Since I started doing more with the bikes and my camaro still isn't done, my parents are saying I have until the end of May to get it drivable. If it isn't, all the bikes and parts I have are being sold and the camaro will sit in the driveway for me to finish. You will hear from me again, but hopefully it isn't a for sale ad.

Off to buy some car parts now...

I hate to see build threads die so here is a small update about where I'll be going with the bike....

So, I pulled myself out from under the Camaro to see the shocks and rear sets I got from SaberV45 sitting on a stool next to the twins, and... well... one thing led to another. ;D

I whipped out the tape measure and started to mentally build the bike again. Here is what I've just come up with...
-- there will no longer be a tail section
-- I will make the battery
-- the original tool box will be reused
-- the original chain guard will be reused
-- the rear sets from SabreV45 fit almost exactly (I'd say ~1/4" off) like I had in my drawings several pages back.
-- the right peg and foot brake lever will clear the kick starter with ~3/8" clearance
-- the left peg will need a ~1" spacer just like I had originally thought because of the cool scrambler pipes
-- the foot brake lever tabs will need to be modified
-- the rear shocks from SabreV45 will be 1-1/4" shorter even when set at the longest setting.
-- all the wiring and electrical stuff will end up ~80% hidden
-- the KTM tail light will no longer be used (I need something shorter... about 1" tall)
-- drum brakes are going to stay for good now
-- superbike bars may be used afterall
-- since I'm tall and cheap, I've been toying with the idea of extending the gas tank and adding knee dents

I've decided the tank will will be a dark blue to match the gauges but I cant decide what color I want to paint the motor. I guess I'm still leaning more towards silver with black accents like stock.

Since I promised not to work on the bike until the Camaro is done, I will now go take a nap and dream about doing the work and making progress. ::)

I got some A123 battery parts from Stephen_ver4.0 in the mail yesterday. Now I just need 2 more A123 cells and I can put together the battery for the bike. Everything in the picture set me back ~$16.

P5110012.jpg

Anyone have two A123 cells laying around? If not I'll just get them from eBay for another $16

Before I left for work last night my dad told me there was a surprise in the garage. I unfortunately didn't have time to look at it before I left but here is what I found this morning...

P5110008.jpg

60 gallon tank
3.7hp motor
11.5cfm @ 90psi

We just need the garage wired for it and some air hoses and we'll be good to go. Now I can really start thinking about building a sand blaster! Out of curiosity, can an air compressor be rigged to draw a vacuum? If so I have another tool to build which will probably be used more then a sand blaster.

UPDATE: Painting

I painted a bunch of stuff for the Camaro and some stuff for the 360 over the weekend. Some turned out well, some didn't, and then there was some that turned out really well but still looked like shit.

Now to explain the last bit...
You know how when you buy spray paint the cap generally shows the color/texture of the paint? Well the high temp paint I was looking at had a gloss black cap and the tag on the shelf said gloss black so I figured the paint must be gloss black even though it doesn't say "Gloss Black" anywhere on the can. So I figured what the hell, I'll get it so I can quick get the parts painted tonight so they can be installed tomorrow.

Well, I started painting the parts at ~8:50pm yesterday so it was obviously dark out. Even with the motion activated flood lights for the back yard on, I was for some reason painting in just the right spot that I still had terrible light. After 3 light coats and some dry time I decide to bring the stuff inside to dry for the night (it's about 9:45 now). Once I got the parts hanging from the basement ceiling I notice the shit isn't gloss black. It's a fook'n dark metallic gray!!

The paint surface is nice and smooth, no runs, no orange peel, no wrinkles, I mean it looks gorgeous! But the damn thing isn't black...

Since I'm so anal about shit looking right I'm going to have to repaint everything tomorrow and the installation probably won't happen until sometime Wednesday.

I can't find my camera but the paint ended up looking like the top of the front passenger fender in this photo... obviously nothing like gloss black...
