XV920 "Short Bus"

I have a r/r from a parts bike that I'll throw on tonight...before I threw in the towel last night I checked AC voltage coming from the stator and am getting ~25V AC across any two of the three wires from the stator at idle.

I dont know the figure fora virago but a CB750 is 8-15VAC so it seams a bit high.

So.

With another r/r I am getting a good voltage range directly from the 'hot' lead charging the battery - but voltage across the battery terminals is not changing appreciably (the battery was not charged fully, and is currently resting at about 12.3V and on a charger). Should note that it did not occur to me to check the r/r that was on there previously in that fashion before i put this one on.

I will leave the battery on a tender overnight and check the voltage before leaving for work tomorrow - then check resting voltage at work, and if it has not fallen, check to see if I am seeing the charging voltage across its terminals.

If it fails either test I will walk across the street and swap out the battery. As it's an AGM I am unable to check for bad cells with a hydrometer.

I believe that I have found the root of my saga of electrical woes in a corroded fuse holder (big thanks to hillsy for making me get my head straight and ADC for a suggestion here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=51652.0).

I plan to rock some miles Sunday morning - will update the thread with some results!

Just put down 50 miles of road and we are back in business...and for the first time in a while, I rode without a constant sense of dread. It was pretty nice.

My wife and I take turns sleeping in on the weekends - going to skip my morning tomorrow and work on my odometer, I believe.

Your bike needs a spring to run. I just know it...

Ha! Missed this earlier. I'll keep it in mind. ;)

It was pouring all morning and sleeping beat out rain gear. Sad face.

Busy day - but I got a few rides in. I need to keep working on the carb but everything is tip top.

I dig the internet - this would have left me scratching my head for a while if all I had was my wits and a service manual.

Thanks fellas. Felt pretty good to park it today without trepidation about whether or not I would make it home.

In other news, the water pump on my mother in law's Volvo 850 died...boy that's going to be fun...
