Here's what it looks like right now:

With 2700 miles since assembly, and another bike I can ride every day, it's time to get this thing looking sharp. Mostly, that means wire wheeling the rust off all the parts I made for it, finding another pair of silencers that don't sound like I'm on my way to till a field, and preparing to put the new front end on.

Here's the tiny subframe, switch and fuse box:

Yep just going to let it sit on there for a week and let it show me its natural shape

It's hard getting any work done with the ass I got for a face

Still not sure how I'm going to paint the tank, but this is tempting:

For the moment, the XV is completely torn down and the frame and swingarm and various little bits have been painted gloss black with appliance epoxy.

Tank is in the process of being stripped. I tried to pop one of the badge mounts off and that didn't work out so well, so I'll grind those down a little and fill them in. If I can get to it this weekend I'll sodablast the motor; not sure if I'm going to pick up new fasteners or clean up the ones I have.

I thought that was pretty neat too. And in retrospect, putting $20 worth of stickers on do I could take them off later was dumb ha ha
