Just saw the MO thread rich alls good and if you can't make it still expect that oil can to be on the road soon !

This motor is wicked simple - should be torqued down tonight if I can stop taking sweat breaks

Engine is back together, need help putting it back in, so that waits for tomorrow. Man, it's hot.

Thanks dawg. Ha ha.

After I got the cam timing lined up I put the automatic cam chain tensioners in - and the one for the rear head was completely locked up, which is odd as I toyed with it a bit when I took this apart, and it seemed fine then. I wonder if it caused the guide failure?

Anyway it's a night's work to put the engine back in. After taking my 450 motor apart and working mostly on Volvo and Nissan motors this lump is surprisingly simple.

need a hand getting that motor in?

That would be sweet MJ - we can do your valve adjustment too and mull over that clutch if you want. I'll warn ya though it is damn hot and I don't have a fan out there.

no problem dude, ill come down tonight, what time you thinking?

Now it had damn well better be tip top.

Put the motor back in with a comealong, double checked cam timing, valve clearance adjusted again, new springs on the starter and idler gears, new oil and filter, double checked all nuts are tight...push starter button and it won't turn!

Drain oil, pull sidecover again, pull and disassemble starter, find that one of the brushes won't move. Find another brush plate, reassemble starter, reinstall, sidecover back on etc.

Lights right up. Will find out how it runs in the morning. Need sleep.

Runs better than ever. Got the carb dialed back in and just put fifty miles on. I overhauled the crappy starter system while I had it apart, and it hardly seems like my bike now that it starts at the push of a button :)

With all the work you have done, the bike will now be as reliable as a Honda.....Good Job!!! :D :D :D
