I've been broke, so I haven't done much since Autumn.
I have removed the stock seat and disgusting battery box. It is time to explore some seat and rear end options...
Here are a few other odds and ends...

I played around with some home powder coating. It was a learning experience.
I had some success and somefailure, but I learned the importance of prepping the material to be coated LOL...

I am very happy with the way the headlight bucket turned out. Fork springs are powdered too.

I am swapping out the right side controls

Thanks...

I used the kit lens for the 7D (28-135mm) for the most recent shots. Some of the others were probably shot with a canon 18-55mm.

I'm really digging the progress. I've been thinking about using "wrinkle" black on the case sides on my 350. Seeing yours done in gloss gives me another idea to think about.

One question... with the tank stripped, what did you coat it with to prevent rust?

I haven't put anything on the tank. The polishing was initially not meant to be permanent. I was just messing around and hadn't chosen a direction for the tank. But it has grown on me quite a bit and I'll probably keep it, at least for awhile. So far I haven't had too many problems with rust. It is garage kept. I have experimented with everything from frequent wax/polish to wiping it down with oil, or even wd40 (again, frequently). All of those things seem to do a pretty decent job of keeping the rust at bay...

Prepping for making a seat...
(How can you not like an obligatory grinding/sparks flying photo...)

If you have an over and a powder coat gun, you too, can powder coat like the pros at home!!!

Yeah my cousin has the gun... The powder is pretty cheap, you can pick it up on eBay. Then you just need a dedicated oven. The powder doesn't need to get super hot, so a normal oven can handle it fine. You just don't want to do it in your kitchen. We had a spare oven in his garage.

Hmmm... nice DOF for a kit lens. Manual focus?
Yeah, if I am shooting a static subject, I like the manual focus. When the subject isn't moving and I can take my time... I figure why not?

Ya not doubt agree. I was shooting most of this build w/ a 50mm prime that's mf. I love it but the shots are iPhone are good enough and most importantly, so much easier to load ad post, that I slipped away from shooting with the cam

You're 100% right... I have hit that wall often lately. Where I just want to whip out the phone, take pics, and be done with it. I have been trying to resist that. When I take reference/disassembly pics I usually just use the iPhone.
I'm not much more than a newb at wrenching, so I have found that I am drawn to the posts and threads that have the nicest quality photos. So I have been forcing myself to take decent shots in my own build. I am happier with the result ultimately when I look back. Plus, my work space has terrible lighting. That is something that is hard to overcome with the iPhone.
I've been wanting one of those prime50's for awhile...

If I was 19 and had an ass made of steel, I would say fu@k cushions, and be done with it.

I am cutting apart an old tank. Exploring options for a rear end. It is way too tall obviously and way too wide at the moment, but the shape seems cool.

little long for my taste. how would you upholster it? It would be nice to make the transition more of a curve in to the seat that a 90*. Love the seat pan tho. I agree with you, it looks cool enough that I would want to keep it but the 'ol bum wouldn't like it too much. :)
