Captain Meatarm

Thanks for the nice comments, guys. I have only completed one so far. It took me a long time to make, because I never did anything like that before. The learning curve was severe. So the encouraging words really help.

I finally had the time to knock out the other side cover. I love the look, I'm glad they're done.
More importantly, I put the electrical and everything back together so I could ride a bit this week. (hello, 80degrees in Chicago?... in mid March?... crazy) need to get cracking on my seat and rear hump. I've been riding on the metal pan which quickly made me realize I am not that young.

The very first time I took my bike for a spin I lost one of the Honda wing badges...
Anyway I wanted to try and make a replacement out of copper, because... well just because. Anyway I put about 45 minutes into it and came up with this. Originally I was gonna try my hand at engraving the details, the feathers etc... But I'm kinda digging the flat look of the badge as is... Thoughts or opinions are welcome. It still needs some fine tuning obviously...

I like the contrast with the bare steel tank, if you've got enough material though I'd try to lightly engrave it so it's got a worn/patina look to it.

Polish that thing up and give lil more detail to the wing tips and leave it clean looking !

Okay, so I had a chance to work back into the sidecovers I made. I came up with this. I think it is an improvement. In fact this kind of industrial treatment is tits to me. Any thoughts?

I really like that look. I see something inspired by that in a future project !

So here are the pair of wings I made. I'm pretty happy with them. I actually made a third one as well. The plan is to put these two on the tank as is. I really like the flat unadorned look. But I made the third one to try my hand at some engraving or copper etching. I did some copper etching in art school, so I have some know how, but it's been awhile.
Any suggestions on how to mount these to the tank? I'm sure I can come up with something, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel. Keep in mind it is a bare metal tank. Anybody have a technique to attach a custom badge?

Thanks everyone. I haven't started much into engraved ones yet. Nothing worth showing anyway.

3m double sided tape works awesome bud looks really good!

Really? That tape will hold, Joe?
I know it is certainly strong enough, but vibration and wind and so forth...? I think I may give it a shot. But they take a while to make, so I'd hate to lose one...

PLENTY strong! holds all my wind guards on my jeep, have a buddy that used that to hold the ballasts on his headlights HID as well... it is really tuff stuff

I work in a sign shop, we use a 3m tape on glass for holding large acrylic letters. I've never seen something hold so well. Its almost gooey. I have yet to see a letter fall off in 7 years.
