68 CL175 Project Vicarious

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

Looks good. You did got the 200 front end eh? Sinner. Have you been able to find parts? Thats the main reason I sold the 200. That brake!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

Ya, the parts weren't too big of a problem. I thought for sure I was gonna need a new fork lower cuz of a bolt seizing in it. Checked on ebay, new forks were like $25 + shipping! Didn't need 'em anyways, but it was re-assuring.

The brake..... ugh. It's getting better, but I still wanna swap out for hydraulics.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

the brake on the 200 i just picked up works great! I was really surprised at it. stops on a dime. Crazypj said that they actually work pretty well when set up right. gotta make sure the pads and disc aren't glazed.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

I hear ya, I know there's potential. When I first hooked them up, it felt like there was grease on the pads (there wasn't), but I rolled her down a big hill by my house with the front brake on the entire time. Seemed to tighten up a bit after that.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

This little bike looks so nicely put together. There's definitely a few ideas in there worth stealing. I bet more than a few here will have a look at converting to pull starts?

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

Rich, I haven't checked this in a while.... nice man looks great and should be tons of fun. So what is next?

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

I still have to get some things before I can get it inspected. Front fender, working speedo, cables NOT wrapped with electrical tape, etc.. I'm trying to switch the front brake to a hydraulic setup, and have a CB200 tank I'd like to use as well. Oh yeah, I have yet to get a Dyna coil along with an electronic ignition too.

While it's certainly ride-able right now, I don't think it will ever be actually "done".

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

wow man! very nice work! turned out great! awesome even!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

Ya, it's still a work in progress. Been too busy riding it to work on the other tank that I wanna use. But that's probably a good thing!

Thanks guys!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

Got my speedo and mirrors all mounted up. Because the speedo was made for a T90 or something I had to figure a way to mount it without the headlight bucket. I wanted it to sit flush with the upper clamp but didn't want to cut off the mounts for the original gauges so I cut 2 square holes in the plastic housing like so:

And slid the housing on:

All bolted down:

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

I knew you would make it fit beautifully! Did you paint the plastic surround? I think it was off white or tan maybe?

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

Sorry Rich, just got your PM. Glad you went that route though! Looks awesome! Always uppin the ante!

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

Thanks guys - it took a lot of beer and staring to come up with a solution for mounting it. I still have to take her out for a spin and see how accurate it is.

Aetsh - you're right, it was an off white color. Good old appliance epoxy.

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

WOW! Great job, looks as if it was made for the bike.
I like it. ;D

Re: 68 CL175 Project Vicarious - Smokin!

I had to get a new cable anyway from a cb125s (same thing though) and it works.

GPS confirmed - 2 mph fast at 50 mph. I can live with that!
