I would try sourcing newer SSie headlight+bracket and the some mini fairing made for that

Smaller than the factory half fairing.

There is something similar that Airtech sells, though not quite as much coverage. If I hate what I come up with as far as the Buell stuff, I will go this direction. That bike looks fast standing still!!! Thanks for the link.

Giada's battery had one bad cell. Makes perfect sense. Even if I have to go further in, the one bad cell is a good place to start.

Here's my rendition of the Ducati Course airbox for the SS. I needed an airbox lid, and I scored an entire airbox WITH a bonus: a K&N airfilter. The Duc Course box lid is not much of a lid, so I made my own version:

I gotta smooth it out, but this is the same deal, in essence.

While I am smoothing out the airbox mod, I also decided to work on the seat. Many of the streetfighter crowd would say to shorten the subframe, but I actually like the seat and the length of the subframe. What I will do is mould from fibreglass a new cowl that covers the rear seat section and the subframe. I will retain the ability to lock the seat and remove it with a key.

On this topic, I ask whether or not anyone would think a Monster seat could fit here? I know the Monster was basically the same bike...

I will also make an undertail tidy from diamond plate and get rid of that unsightly bit of muck in the back. Stay tuned.

Here it is:

frames are a bit different I believe.

sorry. the 900ss frame is more of a cousin to the 851. at least in the rear. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean you couldn't go to salvage and get a m900 seat to play with. Also - go to bikebandit or the like to look at schematics. OR go to the ducatims site I gave you earlier, and ping there. It is a global forum, and the largest duc forum out there. bound to get your answer there in the monster or ss forum. Be forewarned though, that the ss crowd on that site is less build it your self. There are guys like me, muschi and others that are more hands on if you get my drift.

The monster forum is much more user friendly.

Thanks. I have checked it out, though I haven't asked that question. I think I will be making a cowl for over the seat cowl and filling in the space between the subframe and the rear of the seat for kind of the cafe seat effect. After riding on the seat of this bike, I don't fancy going back to racing foam ;D

Y'all may think this is ghetto-bootylicious, but this is my current thought on fairing in the front a bit. I am sharing as this may inspire some of y'all to try something new for headlight builds. I know that smaller is better in the world of streetfighters, but I just wanted to float something different:

DSCN0583.jpg

Buell XB number plate with headlight cut out. I think this could look even cooler when tucked to the fork using small lights. I just wanted to cover up the junk while I try and solve the electrical problem. But I kinda like this well enough to clean up the excess fairing stay and wiring. @ $50 USD each, they are not cheap; however, if you do dig the way it does it's thing, it's pretty economical. Let's face it- the original streetfighters did not have fairings shaped like Spawn or robots!!! I have also been know to change my mind from time to time.

Man I usually would try to find something positive to say and then just say something about not liking it in a nice tone, but I have nothing good to say about it. I will not say anything negative though, or did I just make a negative mark....Oh well!

EDIT: Sorry man, I just am not feeling it.

One in the negative column.

I may end up changing my mind, or I may just keep it for days I want to make people ill :p It wasn't an overly expensive piece... I am not offended, and no stripper fed me drinks before I got onto computer...

Dunno- I am feeling this mini fairing I fashioned up less and less. But I can't find anything that is unique, not overdone, and I actually want on my bike. In a quandary again. Maybe it is just a bit too weird or dorky looking.

Great bike to start with first of all.

Start looking around for clear / tinted 3/4 helmet visors for just a small windscreen. Or maybe maybe one of the extended headlights (like Gretta above) and fashion some type of dual-headlamp to hide the wires?

Be creative!

I was thinking about this last week... purchasing an old duke ss, and giving it the gt1000 treatment... I see some similarities in the frame design, I wonder how much of a straight swap some parts (tank / fairing / tail) would be...

Actually, after seeing those pics, I'm pretty sure nothing would fit. Pity.

You're giving me a few ideas here. Atleast I didn't spend hundreds of dollars trying to come up with a mini fairing/light that I hacked up and ended up hating... I may do something where I just hide the wires under a bunch of sheet metal. I dunno. I will flesh this out.

Maybe the half fairing would fit. And the tail could, if you're willing to sit on race foam (or have a custom upholstery job). The tank is a different story, however. You could do that to a Sport Classic easily, however. Here's where to get that seat and half fairing: http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/ducati/SPORTCLASSIC2006-08.htm

The mini fairing would look better with a round light, also, try allowing the trim around the light to sit over the edge of the light instead of allowing the light to protrude through. I think that fairing could work with a different light and a little cleaner trimming around the light. It may also work with two smaller round lights in it.

I like it, but I would open it a bit more and use the original duc headlight gasket to fill. Give it a more polished/finished look.

I plan on using flexible trim (for around doors on cars) to clean up the hole, or I may use beater's suggestion. This was merely a mockup. This is not the final incarnation of said fairing, and I may get another one to install smaller, round lights.

Oh man, PLEASE give this girl a round headlight or some sort....she is begging for it!!!!

A great one to use would be a nice old Buell Tuber headlight....they're big and round and designed for use on USD forks. The fairing IMO would be much better with one. Square headlights to me are...well...just 80's looking....

Then explore your options. The whole point of the fairing is to reduce wind, so go aerodynamic. Even a small bikini fairing would work wonders and let that beautiful frame shine.

Again- I am not married to one headlight design. This is a process, and a long one at that for finding the perfect headlight and fairing combo. I almost have my mate giving up the Thruxton I so lovingly made a cover for the dual projectors (he ain't feeling it; was that the plan all along? ;D).

I have been hacking away at the under seat tidy I have worked so lovingly upon. I think I have a solution; but I had better wait- y'all are so hard on my prototypes that clearly look like prototypes. I still love y'all!!! ;)

Due to popular demand (and the fact that I was able to get my old Thruxton fairing back), I am going to go round on the headlight.

I am hiding a lion's share of the wiring in the headlight bucket. HOW? I am grafting the ass-end of a Creatine can to a 7" bucket, cutting the end off of the healight bucket. The blinker relays are the scariest part to stuff into the can, and I may do it later. Any suggestions as to how I would stuff them in the can without a worry of them jiggling loose? I will eventually glass the whole assembly, but for now, it will be duct-taped together until I get some supplies together.

For now, I am using the fairing stay to mount the headlight and fairing, as I don't want to change out the guages at this point. I also like the way the horn is mounted.

Here it is:

Run a couple of wires, say from under the seat to where the relay plugs in. Wire it up and secure your relay in the new spot.
