NOS from what? A GP bike? Those looks fantastic!
No really....where are they from? heh

Heh, heh, heh! Ya, I guess that term is a little outta line when you're using newer parts on these vintage bikes! The rear sets are for a 90's ZX7 Kawi. They are "new" but left overs from when they were popular, and I got a pretty good deal on 'em! I guess that still qualifies as NOS!! ;D

I'm gonna hafta weld some steel brackets on the frame to bolt them to. I just hope they don't look too "out of place" when I'm all done! ;D When you mix eras like this you can sometimes end up with a bike that looks like a "dogs breakfast" if you know what I mean! :D We've all seen bikes that look like they can't make up there mind what they are!! ::) That's why I totally understand people like DrJ who don't like mixing eras. It's a bit of a "crap shoot" at times and you lose some of the "retro cool" look and feel!

So, this is "me", we'll see how it turns out! ;D

Slick is right!! I'm gonna try to do the same thing tonight on my headlight shell! Wish me luck!! ;D ;D

With the bucket I had I had to flip it upside down to have room for the switch and all the other assorted wiring that had to fit in there. I've seen other buckets set up the same way without flipping them, all depends on how much room you have inside the shell. I had to fill a fairly large rectangular opening in the bottom of my bucket, I used some epoxy putty that I had picked up from an ebay store for some polystyrene sculpture work I was doing a couple years ago, stuff is pretty slick. Just mix the two parts together and you get a putty like plastic that sets to become very strong plastic. Just used the same stuff to patch up the driver's door mirror on my Mazda after a run in with the trash can...lol

As always looking forward to the pics!!!

Re: Kawasaki H2/FZ Cafe Back from the Dead?!

You can kind of see in this pic where I had to fill that space, it's right in front of the key switch on the "flat" of the top of the bucket. I didn't do a perfect job of it and would like to eventually take another crack at it with a bucket and trim ring that are in a little better shape...

I just pulled my headilght and I think there's enough room to do it! It's gonna be close!

I might be in the market for a new headlight shell tomorrow!! ;D ;D

Ha, ha! I guess if "disaster" happens, I could just patch the hole with a DTT sticker! 8) 8)

Re: Kawasaki H2/FZ Cafe Back from the Dead?!

They came out of a box! ;D ;D As stated earlier in the thread, they are made for a 90's vintage (not sure the exact year) Kawi ZX7. :)

It's just 'cause he had 'em kickin' around, taken up space that I got a deal on 'em! 8) 8)

Re: Kawasaki H2/FZ Cafe Back from the Dead?!

I guess I missed that bit....

Re: Kawasaki H2/FZ Cafe Back from the Dead?!

O'k. It's funny how the "small things" will get me "charged up". ;D

Last night was a good night. I hacked more of my sub-frame off, ground down some of the jagged bits (still lots more to do), drilled out the headlight shell for the ignition switch and mounted the speedo and tach. I'm gonna change the bolts and washers holding the gauges, they were all I had on hand last night! The wiring needs to be connected and hidden and but you can see how it's gonna look.

Things went so smoothly... I can hardly believe it! No blood on the floor, no parts (or tools!) flew accross the shop, nothing was broken or otherwise destroyed...

It turned out pretty good!

Thanks to anarki650 for the inspiration!! :-* :D

This is how the tail and rear of the frame looks. I'm gonna need hangers for the chambers and mounts for the rear sets, but you get the idea.

So, I've gotta clean up the frame, touch up the paint, make some hangers and brackets, etc, etc....

So far so good. ;D ;D

Re: Kawasaki H2/FZ Cafe Back from the Dead?!

Lookin good Drewski!!!! IMO the small things are what make it or break it on a cafe. Yours is definitely shaping up to have all the right small things!!! Nice work!

:D :D :D :D

In the past it's been a 80/20 ratio between paying for and doing the work. I've mostly come up with the ideas and then paid someone else to do it. This is the first real project that I've put my own hands on! I've just never had the time/place/tools/skills to actually do it myself. Now we've got a 80/20 ratio in favor of actually doing the work! 8)

It's been fun! I'm just glad I don't need to depend on myself to have a bike ready to ride this weekend!! :D :D

It's been inspiring to see what you guys have done! Bravo!! 8)

Re: Kawasaki H2/FZ Cafe **June 25 UPDATE**

Project Update: The pipes are now at my shop! ;D They aren't finished yet, but we'll take it from here! Hopefully in the next 2 or 3 weeks we'll get them mocked up and finished. 8)

Here's a pic to whet your appetite:
