    PODs vs Stacks

Apart from the obvious (looks)....is there a practical and performance difference between using Pods and stacks. Any chance the same jets would still work if I were to change to stacks? Anyone know a source of stacks for a CB550 (Kehins)?

Honda CG110..is this a base for a neat little project? Now with pix

Found a little Honda CG110 in tidy running condition. All very original. I can get it for next to nothing so I ask you guys...would this make a cool little project. I am thinking a little stripped out bare frame "racer". Doubt I woud try and make it street legal. Bring on thoughts and ideas...

Front Rotor - CB550F... how glossy?

I fitted a drilled front rotor to my CB 550F. (It is very shiny but oil free) I have aftermarket brake lever and master cylinder, braided line, new pads, reconditioned and restored original calliper. I am wondering how glossy everyones front rotor is or should be. I am considering getting it...

I am back - Shooter fron NZ

Been away from here for a bit so I thought I better re introduce my self. Shooter from Auckland New Zealand. I spent a lot of time and picked everyones brains around here while I was in the process of building this bike. Just gave her a bit of love last weekend and got her running again...

    Smell of gasoline when riding

Does anyone else smell gasoline when riding their bikes? I have pods on my CB550. I can smell gasoline often but especially when stopped at the lights or idling after running. No gas is leaking or overflowing. No smell with engine off. Idle speed is about 1200 rpm.

Forum needs a new General Heading.

Sorry for posting here to all (and attention Mods ) but ... Where in this forum does one post very general questions /comments about Cafe Racers that do not fit anywhere else.? eg: How do I gauge the performance of my Cafe CB550 SS ('76) against other CB550's? What would be a good common...

    Carb float sticking. Why?

What is the cause of carb floats sticking? (apart from being dirty or holed) I have one on my CB550 that does this on occasion and it requires a bit of a tap to sort it out. Bowl and float are clean. FWIW - the carb has been rejetted. Could it be a bent needle ?

References wanted - front fairing for CB550 Cafe

Thinking of a small front fairing for my CB550 Cafe and wondered what it might look like. I have not seen many pix or reference to these anywhere. BTW - I am hoping this will look cool but also be effective at highway speeds. I can feel the drag of my body and notice that headwinds do...

    Modern caliper for CB550

Has anyone ever fitted a modern caliper to a CB550 with original rotor? How did you do it ? (pix?) I am brake obsessed but making progress. Ditched the original Master Cylinder and lever (after installing a new kit inside it). Have fitted a new MC that I got from Ebay ($79 USD) and now run...

    Petcock confusion.... CB550

CB550 '76 (but maybe '77) I have got my self confused over what position the petcock should be set to and I am now not sure if the arrow and the markings are correct. Confession - I ran out of gas over the weekend. I think I must have had it set to reserve and run a whole tank through at that...

    Great day in the workshop

Got some things done today that had frustrated me and were unfinished parts of my finished project. I am well pleased with my efforts. Re jetted the carbs for the pods - successful. Sorted the key/ignition. I had pulled the whole key device to bits and had never quite got round to putting...

Back to front brake system - CB550 (Pix)

Here is what I am thinking of doing - putting my forks on back to front and running the callipers and rotor on the right hand side ( instead of the left). Pictures show a Honda (Post Classic Racer) with this treatment and the front brakes work brilliantly. Theory is that the callipers at the...

HELP please - Brake Master cylinder - CB550 - PIX

CB550 '76/77 I have pulled the master cylinder to bits and I am now installing a new kit in it. The pictures (top bits) show the old internals ordered as they came out. (I think they were wrong previously because the snap ring was out side the circlip!) The row under that are the new bits...

    Front brake kit for CB550

Where can I get a kit to rebuild the hand brake - CB550 ? Master cylinder has a leak at the piston where the lever contacts it. I suspect the seals are gone.

Re jetting CB550 with pods - questions .

Now my bike is back on the road (and I have done 250kms of test riding on it) I have figured it needs re jetting to cope with the pod set up (as pictured). How does one figure what jets to install - is it trial and error or is there a "formula" or trick? Fueling seems fine up to 4000rpm...

    Voltage Regulator adjustment - CB550

Anyone know how to adjust the regulator to get max charge voltage? I have a new Regulator - the old one was a bit duff and I did not feel like restoring it because of reliability issues. Maybe the new one comes factory set? Anyone know? I have read the manual but it is a bit confusing and I...

    Checking the charge current - how ? (CB550 '76)

How do I check the charge current on my CB550. (Note: I am an electrical lkutz) ie - where do I attach my meter? What should it read ? (13V+ I would expect) I suspect I am not getting a charge on my just finished project. Battery seemed to flatten while I was riding. - wouldnt start on...

    SHooter CB550 - "on the road again" - Pix - 2nd Feb 2008

I guess the day that I could be on the road again (legally ) seemed so far away when I started my project many months ago and had my entire bike in bits stored in boxes and plastic bags. Today I finished wiring in the rear indicators and stop light.... ....then I took it to the place that...
