It's YOUR bike.. build it how YOU want it! That's the cool thing about customs and what makes each one unique. Yours are friggin awesome and you deffinately do have an eye that most don't. Keep up the good work.

Thanx Hoosier ;D

One more project before she gets on the road. Shooting to go to DMV and get plates and have a riding vid early this week.

I'll second the comments on the tail light. I checked out your Honda and it's cool with that back tire out there and the flat, kicked up tail piece. Something I would have drawn back when I was a kid and had a better idea of what cool was. Your style is unique, and that's a good thing. Love the way that thing sounds, btw. Good pipe choice.

I like the tail light a lot - but now I think your signals should be round to match. Like these Lockhart Phillips ones. Little bullets. My .02 :)

(Note: It's not an optical illusion - these are canted inwards a bit due to bends in my light bracket arms)

Thanx for the comp phx, but I keepin the blinkys I got ;D

Update on the rear sets.

The brake side is just about done. Made a big adapter plate that bolted to the stock foot peg bolt and the smaller bolt behind it. Then bolted the rear set to the plate. Makin a mounting tab to put the reservior on the back of the frame, just behind the side cover.

The brake pedal itself is going to have to be bent / formed a little to get out past the pipe. The kick starter is also going to have to be bent a little to give it enough room to get past the foot peg. (The stock footpeg is still there in the pic, gonna zip it off and use the bottom portion of it as the spacer behind the adapter plate). Yeah, Yeah, someone had a friggin left side foot peg on the right side rear set, will have to change it out.

On the shifter side it will take a little more fabbing since there are not ready made mounting holes. Pretty much the same set up though, Mounting plate welded to the frame, rear set bolted to that. Gonna have to do a little fabing on the shifter lever and make the linkage attach over the shifter pedal and over the shifter shaft rather than under. No room on top of the pipe for the linkage. Also gonna have to lengthen the linkage rod a little.
Just sorta balanced there, nothing done yet.

It is a long story..............................................................................but..............................SHIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I talked to my brother extensively on the phone. He is into racing sleds and all that shit. He told me it was clearly a lean condition that caused the burn through. The carbs being jetted too lean along with it being a cold day caused a perfect storm. He advised to go up two or three sizes on the main jets and raise the needles by two clips. He said when you hot rod a two stroke to run it way too rich at first to be on the safe side. Then slowly come down a size or two on the main jets and keep checking the plugs. Then in fall when it gets cold, go back up one size to be safe. Oh well, live and learn.

The guy I bought the bike from, GTXR, told me all of this. I just figured................well.....I dont know. I will get it straightened out.

Just bought a brand new set of three stock pistons from ebay, $60.00. Also a gasket kit. Gonna have to have someone look at the center cylinder to see if it can be honed and used again. When I got the piston out I noticed the cylinder was scored up a bit. It doesnt seem too bad, but I dont have the knowledge to know if it is bad or just superficial. :-\

Updates to follow.

Alot of times you can go up one jet size on the center cylinder to help keep it cool as this is usually the one that burns up or overheats first. It really wont make much of a difference performance wise but it will keep your cyl temps a little more in line.

As soon as You put the chambers on You shoulda tuned it... figured You woulda known that... thats why I recomended You keep the stock air box too.

They still sell pistons, it is a 60 dollar fuck up i wouldnot let it bother you

I was runnin the stock air box. I had the carbs cleaned and tuned by my regular motor guy. Mistakes happen. It will be back together soon, just a little $100 kick in the nuts and a lesson!! I was not aware that having the jetting off would result in such a failure. I figured if the jetting was off it would equal noticable poor performance and then you tweek it to get where you want to be. Now I know how critical jetting is in a two stroke. That wont happen again. :p

Went in the cellar with a couple of cold ones and repainted my cafe tail. Nothin can bring out of a funk like applying stickers to your bike!!!;)

Once again I find myself waitin for fookin brown truck with my parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two smokes are very sensitive to jetting as they are to air leaks... Yer lucky that parts are still out there...

Yup... gotta love the UPS Girl

1st over size OEM piston kit.......check, arriving Wednesday

Gasket kit.......check, arrived

Mikuni carb jets.......check, three sets, 100s, 105s and 110s to arrive thursday.

Cylinder bore job.......check, Wednesday afternoon.

If I get lucky and all the stars line up and no deliverys get fucked up, motor assembly on Friday.

Plan, run the 110 main jets and raise the needles two clips. Back off to 105s if too rich. 97.5s in carbs stock.

just because I am at lunch...
and subscribed to this thread...
and ignorant to 2 strokes...
Would increasing th oil in the mixture help?
Seems to me I remember something that more oil would lean it out even more. I dunno.

The oil mixture is run by the oil pump. The oil pump increases and decreases the amount of oil injected based upon the throttle. I was thinkin about unhooking the oil pump when I bought the bike and running a mix. After I talked to the previous owner and read the shop manual I realized it was better to run the pump. 8)
