Ok, I am going for a test spin. With all the changes (5 sizes up on main jets, timing tweak, raised needles) she should be running pretty rich. I even mixed an ounce of two stroke oil into the gas tank on top of the oil comin in from the injector. Wanted to make sure everything was good and rich for the new top end to run in. Even with all those changes it almost seems to be about the right mixture. I checked the plugs yesterday after a short spin around the hood and they looked a little redish, I guess that could be brown. Not real black like it was too rich and not grey or white like it was too lean, so I am thinkin the tuning is pretty close.

If I dont post in a couple of hours it is because I holed another piston and threw the whole bike in the nearest river!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, took a five mile rip again. No issues, good power, no strange noises.:D

Checked the plugs when I got home and they were a little black around the outer edge and nice and brown on the, what the hell is that called, the selenoid???

Anyway, lookin and soundin pretty good.:D

One issue has raised its ugly head, as I knew it would, man the clip ons are KILLIN me!!! I am a little big for this bike to begin with, being hunched over is like torture. I may see super bike bars on this thing in the near future. I will have to mock it up and see. With the cafe tail it might looked sorta fucked up. Update to follow. :

How about some clip ons with a high rise to them? I've seem some that sit higher than the top tree.

"electrode"? Sounds to me like you got it about right on the jetting. Maybe a little rich but thats better than lean. I have read up on "plug chops" to see what is happening at certain RPMs. Maybe that could help you dial it in. Don't know if I totally buy into it but won't go into that yet... Some guys swear by it,

Plug chops are the only way to get the main jet dialed in when running flat out. At any other revs/throttle position, they don't tell you anything at all despite what people tell you.

Reason is that the plug tip (electrode) tells you if it's too hot and that could be too much advance or too lean. The steel sides don't tell you much except if it's wildly out and the insulator nose will always be brown/black at less than full chat because it isn't hot enough to burn clean. If it looks just right at mid throttle, it's too lean.

Is there a dyno shop near you so you can check part throttle fueling - that's where we ride most of the time and it's easy to get that wrong.

Well, I couldnt live with the clip ons anymore!!!!!! No matter how you slice it, the clip ons look soooo bad ass. just cant live with them!!

Call me an old man if you want. I would ride for about 5 miles and the combination of the rear sets positioned way back and the low clip on bars, I would be all crippled up and had to get off the bike. Basically torture to ride. I grabbed some risers and used pro taper bars off ebay and threw them on. Havent riden it yet, but sitting on it is much more tolerable. I am searching around for a new tail set up. The cafe tail doesnt really fit with the super bike style bars. Will post pics when I figure something out.

Why do I always have to do things twice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mono shock and linkage on the way. Just cant pull off the dual shock / cafe tail look with the super bike bars.

Gonna have to go mono shock / gun fighter tail. ;D

Anybody want to buy some nice RFY shocks?? Almost new. ;D

Shock is mocked in. Have to clean up welds and the shape up the steel stock. Should have it all done up by tomorrow night. ;D

Ok, about 15 hours labor and bike is mono shocked. Also trimmed off the rear of the frame and dual shock mounts. Welded in a cross beam at the rear of the frame to tie it in a little better. ;D

Temporary tail. Not too bad, may even keep it. I am working on an aluminum frame / brace to mount the tail to. May cut off the slanted front part of the tail also. We'll see.

I have a line on a steel tail unit. Will up date next week.

This tail aint so bad. I sorta like it. ;)

Everything, tank, side covers, etc are all rounded and smooth... the tail should match... The one You have is too angular, to many straight edges.... but thats just My opinion.... it's Your bike

Hey,

Absolutely love this bike 100 hundred and fifty per cent and more....
The colours flow, the front end is brutally eye catching on this bike as well as those zorsts.... ;)

In the pics the tank seems quite small in relation to other parts so I think maybe the seat should be a bit longer and further back and the cowl a bit smaller....

But hey, whatever, the bike is the shizzz as they say and credit due....nice one

I can't post pics on the comp I'm on at mo..but have you seen the gt550 over at www.bikeexif?

It's another awesome gt550, not with an original tank unfortunately but check out the tail piece....it looks 'right'.....

Think I prefer yours with that ones tail... ;)

Thanx for the comps. Yeah the tail is a little "off", but I still like it. I have another tail on the way That I am going to experiment with. Pics this weekend maybe.

Cyclone, that link didnt work.

Anyways, more updates to come. :)
