Deacon's CB350

Re: Deacon's CB350 - Fairing?

Not sure how I missed this one but that fairing is the tits.

Re: Deacon's CB350 - Fairing?

Working over lunch again and got the left side cutout roughly done. I'll now do up a template to copy the curvature over to the other side. As you can see in the picture I couldn't help my self and put a kneeling pad on the seat to see how the fairing fit me, felt great, could tuck in nicely 8). Only thing is that I'll have to shorten the lower 'wings' an inch or two since they hit my knees. I figured this but made them longer just in case.

Re: Deacon's CB350 - Fairing?

Just found my newest favourite tool...a contour gauge. I've had it for years but never used it, only a cheap one and the needles are hard to move but helps out immensely in getting things symmetrical. I should pick up a better one at some point.

any up dates?

Very sorry for not replying sooner. Due to various reasons I haven't been on the site much lately and haven't even been working on the bike much. Things are slowly getting back to normal now and I'm hoping to get this bike ready to go for next summer. Current state is that I have the seat and tank shaped and ready to go, rear sets functioning but just need to clean them up and get correct bolts, fairing mounts complete. Things left to fab up prior to tear-down are to form windscreen (starting that today), speedo mount, license plate mount, mod center stand to work without mufflers (i.e. like CL350), make inner fender and figuring out where/how to mount front turn signals.

Here is a picture of how it currently sits

I certainly does. Who would have thought that my kids would become more important than my bikes ;D ;D

Having some health issues as well but getting them under control now.

Heal up man, I know how that goes, I am still in physio trying to not need a cane. Kids have to come first even though we love our motorcycles.

Re: Deacon's CB350 - Fairing?

Yep, that's my foot after a deer clocked me last July while riding the GL. I got a Ti hip out of the deal as well. Got the GL rebuilt though and rode her around the cabot trail 1 yr to the day of the crash. Been doing physio to get my leg muscles back, getting there, I can almost walk without a cane, the hip is still not quite strong enough though another month or 2 and I should walk pretty good.

Re: Deacon's CB350 - Fairing?

Ouch! That sounds like a hard way to get some titanium parts. Glad to hear you're on the mend and have the bike all back together and working.

Started in on making the screen (or trying at least, more on that later) and wasn't feeling the top middle section of the fairing. I'm using the fairing as a mold to make the screen so I needed to fix that first. I initially had it more flat in the middle but I've now changed it to be uniformly round, liking it much better. Was home over lunch today to draw out where I'll be cutting the fairing for the screen, only free hand for now but pleased with it so will do some more measurements before cutting.

That's nice work. Two thoughts. You may need a cutaway at the top rear of the screen to allow room for your helmet. And unless you plan on riding flat on teh tank looking through the screen, maybe the screen doesn't need to be transparent. On a race bike with a tall screen, we tuck in behind them on a long straight, but 99% of the time we look over the screen. If that works for you, just paint it black or any other color you like. Just thinking outside the box.
